Has anyone been attending NRL22 events?

I really wanted to get into this, but from San Diego the nearest ones are about a 3 hour drive each way. Bummer...

I started off using my .25 FX Wildcat, but wanted to participate in the bonus stages, so stopped taking my FX and started taking my 22 LR.

Our bonus stages reach out to 500 yards. No way for my FX to reach out to that distance.

It was fun using the FX at first, but I've found I enjoy the 22LR a good deal more.

A very serious problem is the inability to use slugs in Airgun NRL-22 matches. It’s so insane that it’s humorous. Here you are shooting against .22 LR rimfire which shoot 40 grain bullets, but less powerful Airguns can’t use slugs. This one obviously wasn’t well thought out before starting to allow Airguns in NRL-2/, and probably a big reason it is floundering and will probably fade away unless equitable rules are inducted.

I'll be competing in my 1st, NRL-22 event on March 7th in Clatskanie, OR. Can't wait! I'll post the details on the events calendar.

A few of us Airgunners here in Northern California would love to shoot NRL22 but the closest range is a private club. Other than that it’s a 3+ hour drive to Southern California. Right now we’re trying to convince a couple local ranges that put on rimfire events to include NRL22 to their shooting menu.

That's my problem. Our match goes to 208Y and the NRL22 specific stages are only half of the match. The MD won't allow 2 rifles to be used and I'd finish towards the middle of the pack if I just used my AG vs winning the match or close to it using the 22rf. I've proven to myself that I am competitive with a 22rf inside 50Y using my AG and shot a perfect score on the 25Y KYL but that's only one stage. Positional inside 50Y the AG is very competitive, no difference really if the wind is down. The rest of the match would be a train wreck with a AG compared to a 22rf.

Well, and I'm the only guy there with a PCP. 

Honestly, these matches seem to be taking off. I have heard a lot of talk about them lately. 

Yep, they are a ton of fun! 

My local MD has a less than committed attitude about holding our NRL22 matches which is very disappointing to me. I can see his point during winter but even in the summer it's sporadic with sometimes last minute alerts that he's thinking of holding the match "this weekend" type of thing. So hard to change plans.

Anyway, I then have to travel 1.25 hours to go to the other NRL22 match, which I'd rather not do.

I have been shooting since October and am consistently at the bottom of the pack but having a ton of fun. I am shooting 22lr because my Compatto just won't cut it at 100 yds much less the longer stages. I posted the next match on the calendar (northwest Florida).

If anyone is in the Montana Area and would like to come to NRL 22 match. We have monthly matches in Glasgow Montana and in Lewistown Montana.

There are only two of us that should air guns. But we still have a blast.

I just learned about NRL22 and can't wait to attend my first event! I've been shooting at small targets from field positions since I was 8 so the whole concept of "action precision" rifle shooting sounds right up my alley. Unfortunately I don't have an air-powered setup that can reach out to 100 yards, so I'll be using my .22 rimfire 

My local gun club just started hosting 22NRL matches and I will be competing in the first one that is being held on January 23rd 2021 this weekend. It is for 22 rimfire. They did not say anything about air guns. It should be a lot of fun. We will be shooting out to 100 yards.

Air guns are allowed. Slugs only for .22. Pellets for any caliber above that. You just have to tell them that's the division you want to shoot in.

idoc, thanks for the information. I only have break barrel air rifles so I'll be shooting my 22 rimfire. It will be interesting to see if anybody will be using air guns at this event. I'm assuming for this type of competition you would need a PCP if you were going to use an air gun.

Yes, not just a PCP but a very good PCP. I shoot rimfire too because my PCP's are not up to the challenge. I would love to get an air rifle that is capable and give it a go sometime though. I'm wondering if the Maverick might do the job???

Give the Maverick a try. It couldn't hurt.

This morning I shot that NRL22 match. It was a bit cold and we did not have a big turnout. It was a bit harder than I thought. You have to shoot from some awkward positions but it was fun and a good learning experiance. 

I do not own an air rifle that is suitable for this type of competition so I used a 22 rimfire. Nobody else used an air gun either. I would like to try this type of match again.
