Harmonic tuning the FX Impact - VIDEO

Today was the first day that I set out to do this properly. I had always done it since getting the Impact but have always been satisfied with "good enough". Today I decided to take it to the next level.

Took a few hours and a couple hundred slugs, but I got results that I've only ever seen before from Matt and the Air Hunters.

Credit Roelf from Air Hunters for telling me how to go about it. Also Matt for his latest video on shooting slugs.

After Velocity tuning (Ernest Rowe/ Master Class video), I shot 3-shot groups at 25 yds, trying different reg pressures and valve settings until the shots went through the same hole. Then move straight to 100yds to check group size.

This was the FX Impact MKII 22, 700mm slug liner, VK 30gr HP slugs at 922fps. Reg pressure 155bar.

Hey bob. I like your videos. Very very helpful. Just watched your tuning video. The only question I have is After you had your max velocity set did you set it down one on your hammer spring wheel and then fine tune with the valve adjuster or did you leave it on max and only adjust the valve adjuster? I just got my impact MKII and I’m in the process of tuning for the VK 24 grain. Thanks. Keep the videos coming

Good stuff brotha. When I read your original post about velocity tuning and then moving on to harmonic tuning and using the regulator afterwards, I thought, that doesn't make sense, if you change your reg. settings it will throw the velocity tune off... but I guess the velocity tune is just a range anyway. To harmonically tune a gun you have to mess with the reg. settings, unless you get lucky with the velocity tune and get super close off the bat, so you can dial it in with just the valve adjustment.

Maybe you should coin your own catch phrase... The Bob O Total Tune. Get your velocity about where you want it with the "velocity tune", move on to the "parabolic tune" to dial in the accuracy and bam, you have the "Bob O Total Tune". I think naming a "velocity tune" and the other a "harmonic tune" is a bit of a misnomer. It's more like the first part and second part of the total tune and you've got it dialed in. One hole at any yardage is awesome.

I do things a little differently, like shooting for accuracy during the velocity tuning process to save time and then I fine tune with the valve adjuster from there. But like you mentioned, I get what I think is acceptable a 40yds and call it good, I've never continued for one hole groups. I also never shoot at 25yds, which is very smart and makes total sense. I'm definitely going to tweak what I'm doing and give this method a shot. It looks like it works! Good stuff Bob, this video will help a lot of people!

When you talked to Matt, did he say anything about using the valve adjuster? I know in some of his videos he says he doesn't use it, he leaves it wide open. I was wondering if he's changed his ways or just gives that advise to make it easy for people to tune their guns.

Thanks again and Happy Father's Day! Really good stuff!
