Hard hitting .25?

I'm looking for a hard hitting yet still remaining accurate .25 cal for hunting.with Our crazy laws in tennese we have to stay under .25 cal for fur bearing animals. Coyote, fox, bobcat ect. What would be a good choice for a really hard hitting. 25. I've looked at the Sumatra 2500, airforce condor, hatsan Hercules, nova, hatsan bullboss ect.
I'm trying to stay under 1k for the gun. Just needing something to take out in the woods I don't want something to nice to get scratched up like my fx lol.

Well the 25 cal guns at the top of the food chain in power for under a grand are the Airforce guns and Sumatras. I prefer the Sumatra because it's a multishot and pretty much any pellet will fit into their magazines. Both have adjustable power so you can dial the power up or down. But most 25 cal PCPs with 45-50 FPE will take care of the animals you listed.

I can't speak about the other rifles you mentioned because I've never owned one of them. But I'm having good success killing coyotes at night with my .25 cal. Condor shooting 37 gr. Rat Sniper Hollow Points (swaged Spitzers) at 75-78 FPE. Scope is an ATN X-Sight II, so the rig is pretty heavy for carrying. It's also ridiculously long with the Talon Tunes moderator that I have on it. But with a lighter scope and no moderator, this gun would be fine to carry in the woods.

I have the standard air tank and hammer and hammer spring. But I use the Talon Tunes Top Hat with no restrictor installed. Power wheel set to max and 2950 PSI fill gives me the power I need and good shot count too. If you want to make the gun even lighter, you can replace the factory air bottle for a carbon fiber one and drop the weight nearly a pound. If more power is needed, simply add a heavier hammer and hammer spring (cheap and widely available and simple to install) and fill the carbon fiber bottle to higher pressure.

There are many affordable power options for the Condor, and the gun is a snap to work on and modify. With slugs you can increase the velocity without sacrificing accuracy. I'm shooting sub-MOA at 50 yards. Most experienced Condor owners would judge my setup to be very conservative. But I get the job done at 50-75 yards with carefully placed heart/lung shots. But with the Condor, the sky is the limit. The AirForce Texan is even better suited for coyotes than the Condor. Both can be had for less than a grand.

I'd like to replace my Condor with something lighter, shorter, and, well, prettier. But I can't find anything with the same or more power without spending a lot more money and going to .30 cal. I like cheap, I like accuracy, and I like a flat trajectory, so I've kept my .25 cal. Condor. I shoot coyotes off my bipod from a table while sitting in a comfortable chair at night. Carrying this setup in the woods would not be an option for me (bad back). But with a lighter scope and no moderator, (possibly a carbon fiber tank) it would be a good option for anybody.

Finally, the AirForce guns are powder coated. They take the abuse of woods walking without a scratch. I can't name you another gun that can take such abuse.

I have the 25 condor ss and love it. Very accurate and quiet. Lots of easy mods can be done to the rifle if you like to tinker. You will have enough left for a nice scope and other goodies. But like blackdiesel said it is a single shot. So if you NEED to have multiple quick shots this will be an issue. Where I shoot and hunt 1 shot is usually good enough but on occasion a multi shot would have been nice. I have an adjustable insert top hat in mine and have it set up for 55-56 foot lbs with a jsb heavy 33.95 gr pellet but could increase that to almost 70 ft lbs. With a 49 gr bullet from hunters supply I get 79 ft lbs. You can also easily switch barrels for more power, or different calibers. So you can have several guns in one. Just my two cents. There is also a rebate and some free stuff that comes with that gun right now. Good luck choosing. Let us know what you decide.

For a compact, powerful, light weight, and accurate .25 I use a Airforce TalonP. The small tank is easy to fill and in stock form they are 50 fpe. There are several after market moderators made for them to quiet them. As others have mentioned Airforce Airguns can be heavily modified and accessorized(lasers, lights, hammers, etc.).

I added a 24" LW barrel to mine, and shooting a 43.2g Eun Jin pellet I'm obtaining 100 fpe(same energy as a standard velocity .22 long rifle rimfire cartridge). I usually hunt with polymags, but the Rat Snipers sound interesting. Since it is a single shoot, I added an inexpensive Phillips Pellet Holder strapped to the tank that allows for a quick follow up shot if need be. Good luck with your search.

Hi TN Airgunner,
I agree wholeheartedly with Blackdiesel. I recommend you buy a Sumatra 2500 .25 caliber...And you will want to shoot it on max power to get the most bang for your buck so to speak. It will shoot two projectiles very accurately on its maximum power wheel setting for your hunting purposes. For pellets, it will love the Benjamin Domed pellets. For slugs, the most accurate will be the Hunter Supply 49 grain flat nose slugs, sized to .251. (The hollow points and round nosed slugs are not quite as accurate as the flat nosed ones). I don't personally think it is necessary, but these Sumatra's can be tuned for even more power than the factory max setting with a simple modification. Here is a couple links for you to click on, and a review by a world class guy named Kenny that I respect very much. If you need it to be quieter, contact DonnyFL.com for a moderator. Once upon a time I had two of these rifles with custom barrels, and I shot every kind of .25 cal. pellets and slugs I could find to come to the conclusion I told you. A .25 Sumatra will hunt brother...she will hunt.
All the best, Chuck
