I received my AAA Evol Mini 22 about a month ago. Out of the box, it was shooting JSB Hades 15.89gr at 906 fps and FX/JSB 18.13gr at 868 fps. The reg from the factory was set at around 2200 PSI/152 BAR. The most shots I could get from a 4000 PSI fill down to 2200 PSI was 13-14 shots. I was told by others that the Mini should get around 30 shots at 29-30 FPE. I made multiple adjustments with the HST and regulator but I was still getting only 13 to 14 shots. Still learning the gun.
One of the issues, well more of an oversight, was adjusting the HST nut. There's a set screw that holds it in place and I guess from previous adjustments and the set screw being pressed up against the threads caused the threads to be slightly misaligned. When I tried to decrease velocity by turning CCW, it felt like it wouldn't back out any further so I just left it. That was last weekend.
I got a hold of Tom Costan who told me to set the reg at 1950 PSI and tune with JSB 18.13gr to 830 fps. He told me that I would get more shots with the 18.13gr because they were more efficient and I should be getting around 25 shots. Today, I went at it again. I decided to lightly lube the threads on the HST nut and screwed it in and out to align the threads. I was then able to go through the whole adjustment range without the HST nut hanging up.
After adjusting the reg to 1950/2000 PSI, my max velocity at the knee was 855 fps. It couldn't get any faster so I backed off the HST until it completely dropped off (no preload) and increased it back up to where I wanted it at 837 fps average. I managed to get 42 shots from a 4000 PSI fill down to 1950 PSI with an ES of 12 fps and SD of 3. I actually got 43 shots but my chrony didn't register one of the shots. What makes me even happier is that I don't have to fill it as high. It would be less stress on the o-rings. I could probably get around 30 shots on a 3500 PSI fill.
Not bad for a 135cc air cylinder. I'm pretty happy with this tune. I could go a little less but I might leave it alone. I have to give myself a pat on the back considering I'm still fairly new to tuning. The Evol Is pretty easy to take apart. There's just more steps when it comes to tuning and getting to the HST and reg but it becomes repetitive. What makes things easier is having the new Evol/Slayer barrel wrench to be able to get to the reg. Next step is test for accuracy at 50 yards when I have the time.
