Hammer Spring Drift?

So, I am tuning my MROD 177 after installing a Huma reg and lightweight Hill hammer, hammer spring and valve spring. I am shooting strings over different hammer spring settings and I shoot a couple of pellet weights at a particular hammer setting then turn it a quarter in and shoot a couple more magazines. For some reason, I decided to check that the hammer spring was where I thought it was and it wasn't. I reset the hammer, shoot a couple of magazines, back out the hammer and it is a quarter turn less than where I set it. Can the hammer spring adjuster be drifting?

The good news is, with the regulator set at 1500 psi, I am getting 100 shots per fill!

Can't speak to an MROD but I sat here and watched my wildcat hammer spring screw move with every shot until I used a mild thread locker on it. . I think the MROD has more constant pressure on the spring and therefore the adjuster so never would have thought about it moving. But then again the WC is the first gun I've had in a while that doesn't have some sort of lock nut/screw to hold the adjuster.

Yes it's well know that marauders do that.

Name brand vibra-tite would be the #1 choice, it's slightly expensive but well worth it. After applying you can still adjust severaal times w/out issue. If used on just an ole screw you can install/remove it several times w/out needing another aplication.

Very likely the ocasional blue stuff you see on them is vibra-tite.

Nail polish ... will work but you'll need know where your adjustment is and get it right the before it sets up.

As for your testing style, Is that what the huma reg suggests? I would do it a little differently. I would set the HT to whatever, let's say 4 turns. Meaning CCW until it stops, then CW 4 turns. Then back the spring out and start shooting there. Then go in 1/4 turn on the SPRING, and shoot again. Go in with the spring until the shot fps climbs to its max. At that point, any higher will bring the velocity down. Then back out about 1/2 turn from there. That will be about the max fps at that hammer throw setting..

If you want more fps, then turn the HT counter clockwise 1/2 turn, (which will lengthen the HT) back out the spring and repeat. When you get to the max, it should be higher than the previous setting.

Hope that helps.

I have some Vibra-tite. I used it on the velocity screw. Will do that.

Crusher, the Hill hammer does not have a hammer throw adjustment. The only thing to adjust (besides the reg itself and the velocity port) is the spring tension. I am increasing the tension and probably taking it slower than I need to. I could probably just shoot two or three at each spring setting until the velocity maxes as you said but I was also looking at group size along the way. Once I get the spring tension stabilized, I can shoot till max velocity, back it out, shoot for group size and make more sense of my data.

Thanks for all the help!
