Playing with my daughter this morning and saw some movements in my tree out of corner of my eye. Couldn’t believe my eyes because it’s a fox squirrel! Last one was only 2 weeks ago, guess guess mating season has started and they are out looking for love. Made up an excuse and grabbed my trusty dream-tac compact.
Peeked around corner of my house through the scope and boy this an energetic one, up and down it was climbing all over my oak tree. Finally after about 5 minutes it paused on a branch quartered toward me, the head did not have any back stop but the body was in front of the big branch. Put the center dot on the left front shoulder and squeezed the trigger. Surprisingly loud thwack considering I tuned my gun down to shoot the 10.4g 177 hades to 580 FPS from 600FPS, the shot was just under 30 yards. It darted down my tree and raced a crossed my yard out of sight. Crap, I thought to myself! Ran and grabbed my PP700(concealable) to look for the squirrel. Found the squirrel less than 10 feet from where it got out of sight expired so didn’t need a follow up shot. Whew!!!
Up on inspection the Hades entered left shoulder right where the center dot was pointed at and completely shattered the left front leg, passed through both lungs and lodged right under the skin on the other side. Textbook quartered vital shot if you ask me!!! I’m utterly impressed with 177 hades every time I use them, they are devastatingly effective! Put things in context the squirrel looks like 1-2 years old and feels to be around healthy 1.5lbs.
And of course due to my excitement I forgot to hit the record button! Doh!!!
