Hades expansion

Well there's starting to expand and then turning into 3 knife wedges with 6 cutting edges haha. Ive shot some into clay at 600fps and they're starting to open up at that speed with both the .22 and .25 but i think 800 plus and they're doing their best.

They do fragment also when you really get them moving, will just have base and the petals are elsewhere.

Joe, people report very different results with the Hades. I had a lot of hope for them...early pictures of synthetic tests showed great expansion. However I get almost no expansion whatsoever on gray squirrels at 900fps MV. They are accurate in my rifle, approaching that of a good dome, and I’m a fan of JSB pellets but I doubt I will buy them again. Domes work just as well, are slightly more accurate, and cost less.

This was my experience also. It's hard to find a test medium that realistically reflects performance on game. I shot a few into plumber's putty, couldn't tell much difference between the mushrooming of the Hades vs. regular JSB domed. I can see where it might fragment at higher velocity, or different types of tissue/bone. And that may be good, or not, again depending on whether the pellet is penetrating enough before coming apart. I decided to stay with the regular JSB 18 for my critter needs. I've never had a properly hit squirrel survive one, and I have more confidence in its accuracy. I know that others swear by the Hades, so I guess it's just a matter of using what works best for you.

In my testing into ballistic gel and dead pigeons you will not get expansion with the Hades. I think what makes them more effective for body shots on small game and birds is that the cross hatch nose design slows down the penetration into game which allows more energy to be transferred into the target. Now if you are only taking head shots then the domes will perform just as well with better penetration and better b.c. for longer range accuracy. Bill

These are my about average recovery results from Hades .25 shot at around 885 fps. You see even inward expansion somtimes as you can see. The very main reason from my perspectiv to use the hades is the less penetration in comparison with domeheads . The energy transfer is therfore better and less risk of shooting through your target. Due to Relatively low BC I would think that this is a very fine hunting pellet out to around 50-60 yards. Many barrels shoot them fine just like a domehead.

I have not been to impressed with the hades overall with the .22. I do have some .25s but have yet got around to shooting them. I know I wish that the .22s were heaver then they are. I think after about 40-60 yards depending on how fast you are slinging them the odds of expansion go way down. At that point a domed would be a better choice. I found that the hades were not near as accurate at the simple domed design. Some adjustments to the airgun might correct that however. I think for a hunting pellet Ill stick to polymags. Not sure if Ill get the hades again once im through the tins. I think I would rather pick up some Crossman HPs and get 2x the amount of pellets before getting the hades again. They seem to preform about the same from what I can tell. This is my experience with them anyway.
