Had to Share: H&N Sports new Slugs

The reason there are no driving bands/lube groves, is by using the swagging process, it is near impossible. It would require split dies, which a real headache for actual bullets. And very expensive to maintain. Much more so than pellets with thin skirts.

The pic is miss labeled. It is the Arsenal 257420 decked to throw them at 51 gr's. @ 990 fps. .25 cal. the damaged nosed bullet has been pushed thru the barrel for size check.

And exactly why I cast the styles I want.

Just received my h&n slugs in .218

Just the Time to make speed test. No accuracy yet

23 grains 1000 FPS

25 grains 985 FPS ( strangely same than jsb Monster)

27 grains 970 FPS

Rifle set to push jsb Monster to 985 FPS

Form same weight i don't loose speed between 25 grains slugs or pellets.

The barrel is a poly Lw unchoked

From what i see in the scope no spiraling or wobble past 100m

More accuracy test this day normally

Thank you

Thierry

my first experience with slugs h&n in .218 are not good,

i have sized 20 pcs of 25 grains and 27 grains in .217 and the result are far far better,

tested with my zeroed rifle for jsb monster, the only setting i make is the windage, added 7 moa to centered the shoot.zeroed to 25 m

no time to make pictures yet but i'm really happy with the result. with this setting the 100m shoot is 2 dot below zero with 27 grains.

tested to 150m on a steel tube and the slug stay centered in the reticule.

this week end i have more time to test and i make you some pictures but what i can do concerning the quality, the slug is awesome and very well finished, lubed

I found as you did much better when resized to .217. I was amazed at the difference just such a small change made.
It made me think that to ensure people get the best from these slugs the manufacturers would be wise to make a simple sizer available when you purchase your slugs. I never experienced much success resizing pellets but it defo works for slugs!
H&N should make one available. It might mean in the end a lot more happy customers and of course they sell a new product (the sizer). They could do a sizers between .217 & .218 as in .2175

Which mold are those, I don’t see them ( at least I don’t think I see them) on NOE web sight ? Obviously they are shooting great for you ! Nice group. I have a Lyman sizing press ( powder burners 45-110 sharps) and I see they have a top punch, but I don’t see sizing dies, do you use them when casting your own slugs, pellets ? I did go to Lyman’s web sight and see they offer a .251 sizing die, if you are using them are you lubing ?

Some test today at the range with h&n 25 grains to 100m

the golf ball was too easy, at the first shoot this is why we go the the rope.

no spiraling or wobbling at 100m, for the 25 and 27, the 23 spiraling a bit and show some instability problem, is maybe the speed (1060fps) need to make more test.

the wind reaction of the slug never go up to 1/2 dot on the target. even with strong wind (21km/h or 13 m/h)
