Had a visitor to the shooting range... (pictures added)

I am lucky to have 10 acres in a rural area that is just teaming with wildlife. I bought the property with the intent to bow hunt whitetails but the first summer here we were befriended by a young doe whose curiosity had her following me around like a puppy. Well, you can't shoot a deer that has a name so I gave up the idea of deer hunting.

Fast forward 14 years and we have 3 resident does with fawns whose bloodlines we have been following for years. Every year, during the deer rifle season, deer from the area come to visit and for two weeks we have an additional 15-20 deer who hang out near the house where they know it is safe.

Attached is a picture of a 2 1/2 year old; 225+ pound 8-point that we have known since he was a fawn. He is wild and cautious around strangers but trusts us enough that my daughter was able to take this picture of him in my shooting lane and when she called to him and he came to within 30 feet of her. Thought I would share.

Images didn't load. Can anybody help?

Windows 7 & Chrome

Tried jpg, gif, png and 96 and 72 dpi - "fast Upload an Image doesn't work

Tried Cut&Paste; image shows as a "ghost", note says successfully uploaded then image disappears and I get an HTTP error.

Seems that the problem is from a AGN server

Hey Hank!!

You can go over to Imgur.com, establish a no cost account, upload pics to your account.

1) Next time you sign in, go to your name at the upper right of the screen, click on it, drop down to the word "Images", clock on that, and your personal photos will appear.

2} Select one, then click on it. It will give you a pop-up choice of several varieties of web site posting techniques.

3} The one I use most is the second up from the bottom "BB Code: posting to message boards and forums" . You copy the link address to the right, and post that on your airgun forum. Seems to work every time for me. Example below...

Hope that helps!

@davelarson

Finally got the pictures uploaded, please see above.

Our resident deer are very comfortable with the family. Like our chickadees and nuthatches, some will take a treat from my hand. I have to be careful when target shooting because they will often wander into my shooting lane.

Interesting to see the different personalities and how they interact with us and each other. Once you notice the markings on the deer it is easy to identify individual deer and tell what family they are from. I like venison but I like watching them even more.

There’s the pictures! That’s definitely a happy buck just bedded down in the shooting lane. I too have the chickadee’s and nuthatches that hang out. I’m going to get some meal worms from the pet store and try hand feeding the chickadee’s and nuthatches this winter. Supposedly they will instantly spot live insects and land right in your hand! Such fun. And they totally ignore the noise from my shooting. Thanks for sharing this.

The gun hunt is over now and the visiting deer will disperse over the next week or so leaving the 7-9 "residents" that live on my property. They will come back when the snow gets deep. The buck is still here, I was just out on the back deck talking with him and taking some more pictures.

The buck is young and he spent the summer putting on weight rather than growing antler - which is typical of our Canadian deer - they need the body mass to survive the winter. Next year's rack will be heavier. Judging by the tracks, there are some very large deer that live up in the swamps and come down to visit the does at night. Last year I found a shed that had 12" tines and a main beam the size of my wrist - big boy that one.

Glad that you liked the pictures - nice to watch them.

My wife's Grandmother has some tray feeders out for deer.

Last Year I brought my Guns with us when we came to visit. I swear it was just for armadillo, coons and some target practice deer was last thing on my mind...... You know that little 100 pound 95 year old woman had me shaking in my boots before she was done 😂 needless to say she made it VERY CLEAR the deer was off limits to be on the safe side the guns stayed in the cases LOL
