Been pesting and having a blast. Saw the weirdest thing last weekend. A ground squirrel dragging a fallen comrade! I shot him before he could make it to his foxhole, but it was a strange sight. Do they eat their own?
Yes they do, for years I hunted California ground squirrels. I always made a circle back where I shot squirrels and found cannibals to shoot. The only squirrels I did not shoot were the ones flagging telling me there was a rattler near buy.
In one of Matt Dubber's videos he attributes the cannibalism as helping to keep predators from the burrow entrances as well as a ready source of protein. I've seen it often and a fallen squirrel out in the open is a fine attractant.
Well I’ll be! Thanks guys! I’m gonna double back from now on maybe boost my numbers. This is so much fun, no tags, no remote areas...just stalk, aim, and trigger pull.
