Ground squirrel invasion.

Mowed my yard a few days ago and i have several hundred holes from thirteen lined ground squirrels. Seems like the conditions out here have not been quite right for the hunt. The ones around the house will have to go first then the ones in the fields go next. Ranges will vary and wind will be a given. I have a benjamin maximus in .22 a box full of pellets. This spring and summer should be a blast.

Hi, Mosin,
It was the ground squirrel 'perfect storm' in 2009 that got me obsessed with airguns. I had been using my venerable HW55 springer for years to keep the property free of ground squirrels, then development at the vineyard next door displaced a huge population to our place and I needed a little more power. All I wanted was some dead squirrels, now I have an airgun collection and a pesting addiction!
You actually can eliminate all of a population with time and diligence, then you start asking neighbors if they have any squirrel problems.......

I think i want some of them to repopulate so i have some more targets the next few years. I do need to start asking other farmers around the area about any pest problems. I have seen some pigeons in the area.

"Smaug"Get some of that cracked corn you told me about and set up a bait pile where you can rest on a windowsill. Maybe even zero for that range. Set up your motion alarm facing the pile.

Leave the bodies as coyote bait. But tie them down somehow, so they can't just carry them off.

Its gonna be sweet.
I need to setup several bait piles in the back and great idea on tying them down!!

There are 3 squirrels left on my place and I'm exercising extreme restraint to leave them alone long enough to breed up some more....
I got to be good friends with a neighbor when his wife told my wife about their ground squirrel infestation. Turned out her husband had a Sumatra PCP but didn't shoot it much because it sounded like a .22 mag and freaked out anyone nearby. I hooked him up with an LDC to quiet it down and we had some good times clearing his place of squirrels. It was pretty common to get 12-15 every time we went out, took about three weeks to drastically thin them down to the wise old ones.
