Griffin Slugs anyone

I've shot the 22 grain dimple base. They are .217 in diameter. He also threw in a hand full of cup based slugs for me to try out which was a nice touch. I suggest buying a hundred (or two) and giving them an honest test in your barrel.

They were on par with the Nielsen and Varmint Knocker slugs I've tried to date in my Veteran long at 900 fps. So far I have found the AVS slugs to be slightly more preferable for my barrel. I've use a pellet gage to check the diameters and the AVS slugs have a slightly smaller diameter. I suspect my barrel will prefer a .216 diameter slug because of the aggressive choke at the muzzle.

Got a chance to shoot a few at 30 yards. Started at max power 1030fps and then started dialing down with the valve adjuster. I wasnt expecting it to hold a group at these speeds but it was shooting 1 hole at just over 1000fps. I could never get VK os NSA slugs to group well anywhere near that speed. Maybe its the cup base. If i get a chance at 100 yards I will post the results. In the past if I had a slug that shot 1 hole at 30 yards it would be an inch or smaller at 100.

I tried 7 different types of Griffin slugs in my .22 Impact with 600mm slug liner. See my pics in this thread. https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/my-22-impact-slug-shooting-journey-begins/

The best ones for me were the Griffin 24g 0.218" dish base. Well under 1" at 100 yards.

I have NSA and Griffin, for single loading in a Crown or Wolverine I’d pick the NSA, but since theyre both choked barrels, I give them pellets. I like lighter weight slugs for the 22 Impact, problem with the NSA is they are too short and tumble in the mag, yet the griffin’s fit fine. The hollow base makes it possible to be the same weight as NSA but longer, so no magazine tumbling.

IraLite,

That's a great point about short slugs turning around in the mag. I had a couple of the lighter slugs (19g & 20g) turn around in the mag also. When I tried to close the bolt it would bind up and I pushed it out backwards with a cleaning rod. Once I got up to the 22-23g range this wasn't an issue. The dished or cupped base definitely helps out with being longer for the same weight.
