Took me a while to see it too. Im surprised you can shoot so close to a public roadway. We would have 20 cops surrounding us here in NY. Lol. Are they considered an invasive species?

Yes they are an invasive species here in Florida! We usually call and give the local sheriff department a heads up that we will be there. They are pretty cool about it.

That is awesome. I have to move south. What gun and caliber do you use for these? What caliber and FPE is acceptable for a clean kill?

These are some tough buggers! You need to place perfect brain/spine shots to successfully kill them. Many people use .22 caliber since they are in populated areas. Less power makes it safer with ricochet and pass through. I would say somewhere along the lines of 25 FPE would be ideal.

I've been wanting to go hunt iguanas in Florida since I read an article on it a couple years ago. It sounds like an awesome time. How far down into southern Florida do you have to go before you start finding populations of them? Is there much public land that holds them or do you usually need to get permission to go after them?

My Navy buddy is missing our elk hunt this year because he is getting deployed, so I told him when he gets back, we'll do an invasives hunt down in Florida, it'd be cool to go after some iguanas too.

That's great that you guys are doing that for him! It can definitely be a good time if you find a good spot. There are tons starting from the Keys down south all the way up to Palm Beach County. They love hanging around canals, bays and harbors where there is water and sun! You can hunt them in public spots near plazas and water management canals or get permission from the owners of private land. Best bet would be to call FWC and the local police/sheriff in that area to double check and let them know when you plan on being there. Puerto Rico has guided hunts which are pretty much a guaranteed great time. Check out iguana hunting Puerto Rico on google.
