Got those darn golfballs.

Im going to try and keep this short. After a lot of back breaking work clearing out a range to 150 yards, i decided to go for the 175 yard golfball too. Lots more of the chainsaw and pole-saw work. But worth it....i guess. I had to build a target with a high aiming point because the golfball was way beyond my 4 mil dots. After that i used a string to adjust the height of the ball. Hajimoto gave me the idea for my black target backing. (homemade splatter burst target) worked awesome. Could see my hits and misses at 175 yards. I used my AF condor ss .25 shooting jsb 33.95 gr. heavies at 870 fps. 12 power Hawke scope. I hit the 150 yard golfball on the second shot. Couldn't believe it. I figured at least 10. Miller time!!! The next day after some more trimming I shot the golfball at 175 yards on my 5th shot. Cant wait to get some more and go for 200 and maybe further if i can find the right spot. The second pic is at 150 yards. The last pic is the 175 yard target. You can see the pink target is where i aimed and the white powder where the ball was..

Now see, crittahitta, that's what I'd have to do without adjustable rings. That's fine on your own property where you have the luxury to do so but lugging that thing out on public land isn't as fun. It can be done, as you've just demonstrated, but at what point do you throw in the towel or start upgrading your rig for that once in a lifetime shot? Like you I bought my gun to reach out, but not that far. Definitely no ethical shots can be made at that distance, except for on birds or ground hogs but no guarantee even then. So throwing money at this may not always be the sensible thing to do. But then again, what defines sensible and whom?

You're making me antsy. I've known I've gotta take roughly an 11 foot pole out with me and stabilize it. I wish you hadn't posted that. I've got ants in my pants. But I still feel I'm throwing in the towel.

Things get harder the farther you stretch your legs. But hey, I'm not trying to talk you down. In fact, being that you've got land, I encourage you to reach out further. I'm curious the limits of your scope/vision combination.

Hey mick-va It is always windy where i am. I had to shoot a little over two mil dots right. But i got it. Thanks.

Thanks Bizill. I can't go any further on my property without opening my own lumber mill. lol. I don't want to cut down any hardwood trees or any healthy trees at all. I have a few friends that might let me try 200 or more on their land. I wanted to get a better scope but i will never shoot that far at an animal. And I don't want to spend any more money this year. My son is going to college next year. So i did the next best thing. I used a couple of pieces of left over wood and a couple of screws and string. Cheapo! But it worked. I did use chair gun to get an approximate hold over. Was within 2 inches. Then i shot several groups. Boom! Now it is your turn. Im calling you out. lol
Oh my Hawke 12 power scope was clear but way beyond my mil dots. Thats why i made the pink target to aim at. 24 power would have been better with more than 4 mil dots.
Get r done.
I could post the you tube links but i feel funny. I hate the way i sound. lol

I used to pump some iron not too long ago. Now my chest has sunken into my belly. Surely your voice can't be too bad nor your words embarrassing. And your screwed anyway if you put in for the drawing as AGD will be posting your vid up in due time, my friend.

I've been mulling it over tonight about going out and using an aiming contraption so I went out back and aimed at neighbors 300 yards over and although I can see a golfball on 6 power, seeing my pellet hits is entirely different, even with a nice background such as you made. No spotter. No help. No cheap telescope. No go. I could just aim up and watch myself hit dirt but I want to use some sort of skill in this event. I'd have no choice but to get new rings or do as you did and make a post 11-12' high to aim at. Then no guarantee I'll hit jack crack so I'm gonna be sleeping in. It's a hard decision as the Taipan is still capable out past 300 yards. Strelok has me at like 360fps out there. LOL.
