Got another hog with the Maverick!

I was fortunate enough to take out a fat sow yesterday with my hotrodded Maverick! There were no boars in the group, so I went after the largest sow. She weighed 224lbs, so she wasn't small for a sow. The pigs in south GA are like a plague to the farmers, so any pig removed is a good one. I had the Maverick shooting 67 grain Griffin slugs around 1025fps, and the shot was at 30 yards.

I had my Pard mounted on back the scope, so I was able to get a short video of the kill. I apologize if the video isn't that great and I didn't get video of the whole group before I shot. This was literally the fist thing I've ever videod with the Pard, and the first time I've ever videod a hunt.

Now, the bad part... I was looking forward to having some back straps on the grill, but the person's land I shot her on was adamant that I not eat the meat. I was informed that some of the farmers had just poisoned some hogs(and other animals) less than 500 yards where I shot this sow. I told him the sow and the pigs in the group seemed just fine. The land owner insisted it was too big of a risk to take eating this sow, so I didn't want to test that out. He was still very thankful for one less pig destroying crops though. I'm not a big fan of shooting things I'm not going to eat, especially tastey pigs. It is what it is though... Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the short video/pictures. @Rallyshark She’s a good sized sow. Thanks for sharing the pics, video, and the story. It’s a good thing that you spoke with the property owner before packing that carcass out. She could still be stuffed and mounted as a trophy if you’re inclined to pay a taxidermist for their services. Good work.

For sure, I don't want any poison in me, haha. I'll be restricting any mounts to skull mounts only, and I'm saving that for a big boar with some good cutters. That is, if I can manage to get one someday.

Ok, I'll bite. How in the heck are you getting that much juice out of your Maverick?

Thanks, I've put quite a bit of work into that gun to get it where it is. The main mod list is: 32" TJs barrel(16" twist), single regulator with extra plenum in place of the second, Huma extra high pressure regulator, Huma hammer spring, pin probe, custom 16 gram hammer weight, opened up valve seat to 7.2mm with PEEK poppet. I'm probably forgetting something, but that should give you a general idea anyway :) The most power I've gotten it up to is with 78 grain slugs going 967 fps. I chose to use the 67 grain slugs on the hunt, because they fit the magazine. That way follow up shots are much faster, if needed. I hope that helps.

I made it myself with some aluminum I got from Ace Hardware, and I used a section of an old barrel that I chopped as a spacer. Then I put a bolt through it and it goes into the rear factory stock screw hole. I finished it off with some Mossy Oak vinyl to match the rest of the gun. I still need to camo my carbon shroud too, but I haven't gotten around to it, since I've been working with that TJs barrel to make sure it is a keeper.

Great!!! You have a true hunter's patience. Very ethical shot placement. Now, All these hogs need to be removed. Wild pigs were not native to the eastern US and I believe the javelina is the only " pig " native to the US ( south west). Farmers, ranchers, and people raising small livestock and especially children on farmsteads are desperately in need of hog eradication. It's amazing what a feeding herd of hogs do to the land and anything they take a fancy to eat. Great shot !!

Thanks! You're absolutely right, and the farmers kill every one they get a chance to down there in south GA where I shot this one. Well, the smart ones do. I saw 100 acre fields completely destroyed by those hogs. It's just total destruction, so I don't feel bad about shooting them in any way.
