Got a new Condor (older version) NEED ADVICE

Alright, I got an older Condor .22 from a buddy for an amazing deal. My intentions are to make it 75fpe gun and obtain moa at 100y. I would possibly I will put a new .223 barrel on it. Right now it has a standard LW. I want to use it for extremely windy days.

Could some of you give some tips and ideas how to do this? Would this gun benefits from a .22 lr barrel, or sould I keep the original one? Should I buy a new updated valves/top hats? What ammo (over 30 grains) should I pick? Any good photos would be appreciated. What results do you guys have with this gun?

Thanks Nate.

Hi

It's easy to power a condor (I already commented on another topic that had 3 condors years ago), now it should be clear that power is not synonymous with precision, each set of barrel pickups needs its exact power, no more and no less if that fails, forget about moa within 100 yards, also that the spring guide, hammer and bolt moves through the barrel that creates enough vibration in the barrel. Another factor that will work against you is the uncomfortable face you have with the scope if you do not raise or lower the bottle.

I wish you luck in your challenge Regards

My first PCB airgun was a condor SS in .25. I added a Mad dog wood stock which changed the whole feel of the gun besides the looks. A must have in my book. It makes the rifle stiffer and helps accuracy. I had it shooting Hunters Supply .48 grain slugs with good hunting accuracy before anyone else had slugs for Airguns. Was shooting them some where in the 900’s which was big foot pounds back then and AirForce guns were the king of FPE. When slugs started coming from Neilsons and Rat Sniper I tried several weights of both but the Rat Snipers 22 grain were extremely accurate and became my go to ammo for squirrel size (small game). The 22 grain slug from Rat Sniper is now the FX Hybrids. On his website he advertised this slug as the best one for the Condor and it proved right in mine so try them. Later I got a heavier hammer and hammer spring and a top hat kit from Toni at Talon Tunes. I also got his larger 500cc Carbon Bottle. The top hat kit has different inserts to adjust or tune the condor with the power wheel. I have only used the full open top hat but with the power wheel on 2 you will be pushing the 22 grain slugs well over 1000 FPS if that’s your thing. But be warned the heavier hammer and spring makes the gun extremely hard to cock and the added weight of the hammer fall makes for a less pleasant shooting gun. I recommend staying with the stock barrel , try the FX Hybrid slugs , get a after market trigger spring from Talon Tune, put high scope rings on to get a good comfortable cheek weld on the bottle and still see through the scope, get the larger Top Hat . Then see if you get the accuracy your wanting. If your happy with it then I highly recommend getting the Mad Dog stock. It’s an expensive upgrade but worth it only if you plan on keeping the rifle. These guns are like cars . You hop them up and add accessories but turn around and trade them off for the next best thing that comes out. I’m keeping my Condor because it still is more powerful than most Anything out there in .25 and it is accurate with slugs with the stock barrel. I don’t need a magazine gun for hunting ground hogs or coyotes as you usually only get one shot on them . Good luck with your new gun

forgot to add a picture. I shot this ground hog with the Hunters Supply 48 grain slug at 30 yards. He was sitting up beside my shed. The slug went through both shoulders and the through the 1/2’ plywood of my shed behind him. Enough FPE I’d say and that was before adding the hammer , spring, and top hat!

Thanks man I have tried all types of.25 condor slugs and only .249 griffin ammo works. But I never thought of hybrids. Makes sense can't wait to order and I just don't like the hunters supply cast lines which at 80 to 100 really start to unravel with accuracy for me. But thanks for insight

The hunter supply slugs need to be sized to be accurate. I found the diameters were all over the place.

A bit OT, but what's the difference between an "older version" Condor and now? I can't recall when I got my Condor, but long enough ago that it is undoubtedly the "older version". Great rifle. My second PCP and probably the reason I'm here...

From memory new AF rifle changes are the spin loc tank, the safety and possibly the trigger were changed.

And the top hat change from grub screw to 2-part ring-loc. I think the valve stem might be bigger on the newer top hat/valves, 0.28 inch, up from 0.25. If anyone knows what size the TalonTunes top hat kit valve stem is, please let me know.
My TT stem (the part that extends into the tank) mics out at 0.2446" - so probably 0.25" nominal. Note: I bought it over a decade ago, so no guarantees that TT hasn't changed anything.

Thank you sir! I'll see if I can get Tony to confirm (didn't get a reply last time, but this means I'll ask a couple more times), and at worst give it a try!
My weird experiment is to put the TT adjustable hat into the AF CO2 adaptor (it takes the 0.25 stem), and see if I can "tune" CO2, for example say on a cold day have a bigger orifice than on a hot day. I'm not sure the physics is on my side (will volume of air overcome lower pressure?), but it will be fun.

Edit: on second thought I'll just try it. If it doesn't fit the adaptor it will fit a newer valve and I'll use it on that.

Second edit: The suggestion might come up, "just try adjusting the power wheel", but I'm finding that does almost nothing when the gun is on CO2. An o-ring under the top had does nothing. I also notice that the power wheel does almost nothing on air, when the orifice is above a certain size for the caliber, say anything bigger than the 0.145 orifice for a .177 barrel or 0.166 for .22. So I'm thinking that the orifice for the CO2 adaptor (0.232?) is maxxed out, and that I might see the power wheel start to work if the orifice was smaller.
