Good Portable Shooting Table

This is the table I use now. We built it in a day. Yes it looks heavy but it isn't. It is actually MUCH lighter than the stable table I mentioned before. I bet it is maybe 45 pounds. Very stable, comfortable and works perfectly. I can throw it in the back of the truck by myself easily.

This is what I'll do for legs, info provided kindly by a powder burner friend. These legs will screw into threaded plates on the bottom of the table.

"Get four pieces of 1 1/4" black iron pipe 24" long threaded on one end but reamed on both ends. Drill a 5/8" hole all the way through 4" from the threaded ends for tightening with a screwwdriver or similar tool. Drill 5/8" holes through one side 2" from the unthreaded ends for clamp bolt clearance.

Weld a SS 1/2" nut over that hole. Chase the threads in the nut to clean up after welding. Get four pieces of 1" black iron pipe 15" or longer and weld a washer to one end for the adjustable part of the leg."

This provides nice, very stable sliding adjustable legs. The 1" pipe slides into the 1"1/4.

If you are talking portable like throw in the back of your pickup truck portable to take to a field to shoot we use MTM Predator Shooting Tables. They weigh less than 15 pounds and fold flat like an ironing board to store with a small foot print. They are $59.99 from PA and are stable enough to shoot inch groups at 100 yards if your air gun is capable. I've had mine for over 3 years and it has held up well under heavy usage, which includes shooting big bore airguns ,7MM 08 , 270s ,30 caliber powder burners along with 50 caliber blackpowder guns. We use Cabela's swivel deer stand chairs with them which also folds making a compact total package.

Look for a discarded old folding table and harvest the folding legs off it.
newer folding table legs are not as good..
buy (1) sheet of 1/4" x 4' x 8' underlayment plywood ( Lowe's) and (1) 3/4" x 4' x 8' polystyrene insulation sheet.
cut the plywood into 4' x 4' pieces.
Use Gorilla glue and sandwich / glue the 3/4" polystyrene between the 1/4" plywood pieces.
make sure the wood is flat when you glue it together.. I used a heavy pallet at work on a perfectly flat steel table to make sure the "glue up" was flat and parallel.
Strong and light weight.
if I could load pics I would post my bench.

"CampFussell"I had the Caldwell Stable table and it was just too dang heavy to lug around in the carry bag when traveling with it..

I haven't done it yet, but plan to buy this and a sheet of plywood and a couple 2x4's and make my own personal table.

I built one of these, and love it! The legs are extremely stable, so the table is too!

Great thread when you get dozens of great ideas from everyone.

In my barn i use just a 3x6 folding plastic table, enough room for all the chrony items and extras. Outside i use the bench that i built. It stays on the deck year round, luckily my wife doesn't mind it. I found the plans for it on the net, its made for either right or left hand shooters and space for accessories. I have thrown this in my trailer to go shoot long range in the farm fields. Not very portable without help.

Thanks to all for the great ideas for my next portable bench.
