Going full circle - my new Taipan Vet .177 Standard

About 3-4 years ago I descended into the dark side of PCP with a Benjamin P-Rod. I was hooked, I knew I wanted more - but was a total PCP noob. I took the recommendations and got a Taipan Vet .22 Shorty. In hindsight I should have never sold it.

My current desire for a powerful, compact, accurate .177 led to a disappointing purchase. Looking at all of the options out there the Vet was the clear winner. The .177 isn't available from Tony in Compact. I purchased the Standard .177 a little concerned it would get longer than I wanted if I needed to add additional moderation. Thankfully the shroud does everything I need.

Set it up quickly with the JSB 10.3 @ ~910 and managed some shots at 13, 25 and 42 yards. What an amazing shooter.

Are you left handed or right handed? Reason I am asking is I thought about changing mine to the left side as I think it would be faster, but I am right handed. I guess I would have to take off the extended cocking lever I bought for it from Tony.

I'm a righty but left eye dominant so I shoot rifles lefty. I actually found that reaching my right hand across to cock it is the easier of the two.

@Dairyboy - The tripod setup is the Leofoto 40mm compact with the RRS head. I simply mounted an Arca rail to the stock. The little extension is something I put together with an Arca plate and 150mm Arca rail to allow me to get the front/rear weight balance closer to center.

Thanks - I was looking at the RRS BH-40 and it's weight limit. The BH-55 head just seemed to handle more weight - and though our airguns are not heavy, the balance of weight will never be right over the ball. The weight will almost always be cantilevered to the rear end of the gun. WIth the Leofoto 40mm ball head I hand to hold under by 10 mils when starting to tighten the ball in place in order for the pre-load, once tightened, to end up zero'd on target. With the 55mm RRS head that is reduced to about 4-5 mils or preload once the ball is tightened.

Thanks for the info! Just ordered something similar (maybe exact same?) Both Leofoto parts. Should work nicely on my Taipan! Was worried if it would be too rear heavy to balance but that will help alot.

When I ordered my grey Long I was kinda bummed that they didnt' have a coffee, but the gray has since really grown on me. For me it'd be the coffee or gray.

The red looks too pink in all the pics of it that i've seen, now, if it was more of a actual red like the red in the Red Wolf stocks, I could be interested in that.

The green is actually surprisingly good looking in person too.
