Glorious day in the cirtus orchard with the squeaks

Last 2 trips it was hot and no squeaks wanted to play. Today it was nice and cool with a marine layer blowing in from the coast and a bandanza of targets as Curly would say. The juvies are out and they are a lot tougher to hit. One thought he could outrun a pellet, wrong. Another one was a peeker, I cant stand the peekers. I hit one adult and it pinballed all over like a rat, Squeaks dont usually do the pinball from my experience, rollover with a dying cockrach or the James Brown dance but no pinballing. In the one pic you can see the smudge pot the squeak was standing on, they use this with diesel fuel to warm the groves in the winter when it gets below freezing.

I tried to video some of the shots but this ATN scope is such a battery hog or something is wrong. Fresh new batteries say low batt power, recharbeable lithiums and a USB power pack the same. All charged up before hand too.

Hey spectr, nice shooting
The trick is to only use the onboard batteries to power up, get you a 10,000 ma usb battery pack you can find them for around 20 bucks or if you prefer you can buy two or three of the smaller 5000 they are easy to carry around and mount out of the way on the gun..with the Wi-Fi, GPS, off and screen dimmed to half and the Recoil activated record turned on I can get about 6 hours run time. Make sure to update to the latest firmware.

Looks like you're in California as am I. The rains seem to have encouraged all kinds of life this season, I'm seeing lots of Cottontails and ground squirrels as well as Quail and Doves. Looks like a promising season ahead.
One thing I notice about the young squirrels is they haven't developed caution yet, it can be like 'Whack a mole' with multiple squirrels jumping up to replace the one that was just shot. I've taken 6 or 7 from a single woodpile in the space of 5 minutes or so.
I don't have a blind, so I spend time sitting up over a likely spot. The wise old adults are a lot more wary and require some real patience.
