Girandoni air gun was the first air rifle in the world sit long side real guns at the time in 1788 it was sniper weapon in Austrian army then later and banned in the 1800 it was buy by the Lewis and Clark Expedition and be came America icon all air guns we have today go back to the Girandoni air rife 18000psi 46 cal 23 repeater magazine it set in the NRA museum in Dallies Taxes The NRA also protects air gun right as will of every air gun company Crossman Daisy and Benjamin that small part air gun process go to NRA an air gun for safety and right all air gun and owners

It's working pressure was 800psi and it had a 20 ball magazine.

18000psi is an insane number by today's reckoning, never mind the 18th century with single stage leather sealed handpumps and relatively primitive metal reservoirs.

They were incredible guns though. Tom Gaylord has written a bit about them in and amongst his other stuff- he is an excellent source of knowledge on this sort of thing.

Austrian army sniper core was 10 Girandoni air rife an 10 men and two pumper this how work it one air rifle was finish the sniper would drop out and go in back trench and pumper would pump the air resvloer when fell up he go back to line then next do the same there is 10 air rile the only way ammo made would be at night around camp fire each one make own ammo but they do in way be fast and easy by put in pale work and team back then today sniper only as two man team one spoter one shooter

I had the privilege of seeing Martin and Hank give a demonstration of their Girardoni replica in 2013 at the Pacific Airgun Expo. They gave a very informative presentation of this remarkable weapon which was far more advanced than the firearms of the period. I only regret I didn't test fire it! They also had a Lukens replica they had built with them. Here's a video of their replica.

One thing I find remarkable about the Girardoni is the rapid rate of fire-at that time an expert rifleman could shoot and reload his muzzle loader 3 times in a minute, the Girardoni's ingenious sliding breech allowed a much more rapid rate of fire making it a super weapon for it's time. The fact that there was no cloud of black powder smoke to betray the shooter's position made it very stealthy.

yep that good thing about think the Austrian army sniper was shooting French men on battel field wonder what thinking after see there friend dead no battel field sound no smoke just solder dropping like flys Lewis and Clark Expedition put on the show for north Amreican Indian's dress up in military clothing and show off power of the wind gun north Amreican Indian's called it but Girardoni new stuff at time today it called toy but it not toy air gun more powerful longer yard my bulldog 357 this guy on you tube went 3oo yard with bulldog357 with out Girardoni we never have air gun to day

As you look in pic above Girardoni air rifle flit lock style paid way for our pcp air gun and big bore air rifle lets brake it down stock barrel ammo magazine hammer fire pin trigger cocking leaver air ravioli sell's all these is parts act like what we have today but these day every one went with tank but I didn't I went with pump style just like Girardoni air rifle classic style of charging air rifle take time but what a work out tell me how charge your air gun …..

From Wikipedia “Throughout 17th to 19th century, air guns in calibers .30–.51, were used to hunt big-game deer and wild boar. These air rifles were charged using a pump to fill an air reservoir and gave velocities from 650 to 1,000 feet per second (200–300 m/s).”

There are a few that predate the Girandoni as you can see from the above dates.

Thurmond : thank you for that info like I said they use them for hunting and plink gun of king and queen then later Austrian army use them sniper weapon then Lewis and Clark also talk about self defend of Expedition in there book but yeah Girandoni air rifle will go down in history first air gun of all time but the reis of big cablers 177cal 22 cal 9 cal 30 cal 35 cal 357 cal 40cal 45cal 50 cal did you know there have automaniac air rifle came out this year with out Girandoni we not have air guns the Girandoni air rifle is one greatest paces of work look at beauty of as will
