Getting my nitrogen tank today

That’s cool for your wife to give you the green light on. $5-$6K Compressor, and even cooler that you don’t take her up on it. You really don’t need to. You can actually spend half that green light budget on an Alkin Mariner, and I were to buy that new I’d get the vertical model(ok, a bit more that $3K, lol). But the horizontal model w/o shipping is just under $3K, and you get dive quality air, and fast fills. My 2004 model tops off from 3200 to 4500 in just under 5 minutes, and that thing never gets hot! Doesn’t even feel like it’s working at all. 

I don’t work for Alkin, just recently became an owner of a used one. Whenever I experience something great I just like to pass it on. If I would’ve had the extra cash laying around, knowing how well this works, I would’ve sprung for the vertical model for the ease of moving it around the garage. But all in all I’m happy to even own one.

I see the tank is left hand threads. I got a nearly new 10,000 psi regulator and hose for $140.00 on eBay a while back and it has left hand tank threads. Now if can just come up with a bargain 6,000 PSI tank Does nitrogen make your gun leak since it is smaller molecules? I heard nitrogen filled tires leak because of that.

Nitrogen molecules (N2) are larger than oxygen molecules (O2) so therefore, pure nitrogen will permeate the walls of your tires less than oxygen molecules. ... Well, a nitrogen molecule measures roughly 300 picometers while an oxygen molecule measures 292 picometers. That's only a 2.6% difference in size.

After checking on the tank size, weight, lease etc. in my area, seems to be more than I personally need. I would buy the tank if I was planning to do Nitrogen for 3 years or more.

Bigragu - Thanks for spending the time to elaborate on that compressor. Alkin Mariner is today's homework. 

300 cubic feet is 8,495,054 cc's...divided by 480 cc = 17,698 fills. So would half of that, 8,849 fills bring the 6,000 psi tank down to 3,000 psi? I'm no mathematician, but I'm pretty sure that's NOT how it works Wish I still worked at the plant where we used nitrogen everyday. Spent a lot of time repairing the regulators..but then, that was liquid nitrogen.........../

Ever considered getting a Alteros booster with a normal size bottle of nitrogen. You will need a compressor to drive it but that is what I use and can pull all the nitrogen out of the bottle and refill at 100lbs.

Thats only 470.00 difference whats the problem.

Time to invest in a booster?

With some rigging the Altaros Booster will empty your N2 bottle below 100psi and still boost that to 4500psi.

When the N2 bottle drops below 4500psi then a standard regulator will feed the 150psi inlet of the Altaros Booster and you're golden from there using a shop compressor for work.

Thanks Chickenthief for your help. I would have thought the N2 tank would refill the smaller tank more than 1.4 times.. A real eye opener.

And as i said a booster will work that N2 down to some 100psi and still fill a 4500psi bottle!
