Getting Into the Slug Groove

Lately with my new permission I can safely shoot pest birds off the silos with due diligence on my part. As I shoot the slugs more, I am amazed how little the wind affects their drift. Practice makes perfect and while I have shot one pigeon at 150 yards for now I am hammering them closer in to reduce their numbers. The video quality is not that great as my Gopro is a little out of focus and the light is not that good but some pigeons are taking the fall. Bill

Great shot! I’d personally be afraid of putting a hole in his silo.

Many years ago I whacked a Crow at a lasered 172 yards with JSB 25.43 King from 44.69 ftlb AZ .25 MKII Rapid shooting from 2nd story window. Dial of death maxed at 135 yards. Held off 1 mill for wind & 4 (4200 Elite only has 4 mils) and to my surprise I landed a solid hit.

I don’t shoot Crows anymore. I now have ChairGun Pro & Strelok Pro. I regularly shoot JSB 18.13 & 21.14 Kodiaks & Baracuda Match 5.52 out to 200 yards with 10-12’ of drop targets only.

I’ve seen a 31.9 RBT slug at 940 fps have no problem hitting at 316 yards. When I get my custom .257 & one of these https://heritage-arms.com/product-category/gun-parts/cold-shot-llc-adjustable-scope-bases/ for $429.00, I’ll then need a night vision, IR, or expensive thermal scope for farm Coyotes. 80+ ftlbs at 500 yards. No winds dead of night. Should be fun.

I love open field shooting but I’d honestly be afraid to make the shot you made. Great shooting!

James at the sharp angle that my slugs are going in relationship to the silo top I would not expect any holes being made just a glancing blow. Bill
