Getting first air tank

I'll be saving for the nomad I have a pump and I am modding the Vectis anyway with hammer spring adjustment and huma reg,I'm currently pellet testing with airmark chrony(dinky lil thing but freaking AWESOME) so I'm hoping for max power/shots as best as I can get.

That being said and the fact that I'm hunting squirrel I really don't NEED a comp I saw a tiger shark tank stating it fills a maurader 42x or it might've been the great white. I've seen videos of guys tethering tanks in back packs.

But the price is ridiculous IMO if I can get in that ballpark for less than I'm all for it. And I really don't want to get involved in the YH,yes I've seen plenty of positive reviews for it but im firm believer in if you can afford it GET IT and get what you pay for blah blah. I appreciate the input thanks

Happy to help :) Yeah it's an expensive hobby :(

Some good advice has been posted. After using a hand pump for maybe 6 months I like many others decided to go with an airtank. I have a couple places I can get it filled here in town without problem. Before I bought my tank I contacted several local dive shops to check their capability. One of them had the capability to fill to 4500, but they did not have the fittings to fill a scba - so that would be another thing to ask in addition to if they have 4500 fill capability.

To keep my initial cash outlay lower, I purchased a used fire dept scba tank off of ebay with 4 years of its 15 year service life remaining, had it hydrotested, and bought a new fill station ( the high pressure hose and fitting unit to hook to the scba to the airgun). New or used, you will be paying roughly $40 per serviceable year for a tank. As said in previous posts if you also end up with your own compressor, you can continue to fill your own tank past the 15 year service life if you feel comfortable with the tanks condition.

Since I can get refills easily, my one tank meets my needs, but if I get another gun I will probably be looking for another one. Some of the best deals I have seen on tanks is here in the AGNs classifieds, but you have to be quick on the offer trigger as those tend to go fast.

I like what Joe Brancato (JB) airtanksforsale.com/ExpertHPA has to offer. I just received my new Guppy 18cu.ft. tank from him recently and just got it filled today at a local dive shop. The second gauge helps if you want to know how much air is left inside your tank instead of using a deadhead. A little pricey but good valves made in the US. His tanks come with DIN300 threads which all dive shops should be able to hook up to and fill.

There's a few things you should know about getting an SCBA tank filled at a dive shop. You can ask them to fill it to 4500 psi/310 bar. If they do a "hot fill" (filling it fast), when you get your tank back from them if they just finished filling it, it will show 4500 psi. A few minutes later because of the heat created from filling too fast, your pressure will start dropping.

By the time your tank cools off, you will lose about 200-500 psi depending on how fast they filled it. You can ask them to do a slow fill but that means they have to stand there and take there time and monitor it. If it's a busy shop, they might not have the luxury to do it. You can also ask them if you could come back later to top it off to 4500 psi after it cools off maybe in the next day but they might charge you again.

Having them fill a brand new tank with no air in it, I'm pretty sure they're going to do a hot fill. When you need a refill at lets say 3000 to 3600 psi, you'll won't see a big loss in air pressure if they fill slowly. If you got a young kid manning the fills, then forget it. I guess that's joy of investing in an HPA compressor.

I just got the Guppy recently and had its first fill from empty at the dive shop. I'm not sure how many fills I'll get because I have different airguns that fill to different pressures. I also have a Great White tank that will be used as my main tank to fill from. I purchased the Guppy for my Leshiy 1 and Leshiy 2 when it comes in. The Guppy will be stored in a backpack along with the Leshiy for portability and discrete hunting trips. I don't recommend the Guppy as your first tank because you won't get as much fills. Get the biggest tank as your first.
