Tuning Gen1 marauder barrels?

I am pretty sure all of the Crosman barrels are choked. You can likely just pull a patch through and pay attention to the last couple of inches to see if it gets tighter, at the crown end, if you want.

Hard to say what slug size would shoot best but with so many available these days I'm pretty sure you can find one that will shoot. Probly best to look around or ask around on the forums and find someone that is shooting a slug well to save some money.

There is a bit more to slugging a barrel than just pushing a pellet down it.

I have some of the FX hybrid slugs. My gen2 25 didn't much care for them. Is there any way to tell if the gen1 has the green mountain barrel? I'm assuming the valve and hammer spring were the only things changed. I appreciate all the information. Maybe I'll just set this one up to shoot the 34 gr JSB's and keep the gen2 zero'd with the lighter JSB's.

All the Gen 1 25 cals came from crosman with GM barrels. The original Gen 2's did as well. Mid-production they changed to their own barrels.

If you got it used, it might have been swapped out, but not that likely. It has more lands than the crosman barrel, but don't remember off the top of my head. Maybe 10?

Both the GM and Crosman 25 barrels are choked, and generally don't shoot slugs well. I wouldn't mess with a good GM barrel that shoots pellets well, to try to make it better for slugs.

The G2 Mrod had a better balance of tuning. Lower Es strings. Mainly from the valve change and hammer spring change. Both will retrofit into a G1.

There were other parts that changed in G2, including the trigger assy. Many like the G1 better. Baffles are better in G2 and retrofitable w/spring.
