Gauntlet .25

@hagimoto has done some excellent videos and mods on the gauntlet but most of all his videos have been on the 177 and 22 caliber, you should call that video series The Gauntlet bootcamp.

Well anyway I got two 25 calibers coming to me and wanted to see if there are any regulator issues with the 25 as there was with the 22 and get an idea of what mods was done on the 25 with the exception of the known air stripper issues. Also since those videos were fairly old does anyone know if umarex has fixed any of the known issues.

While I like the idea of being able to shoot off the regulator my primary goal with these 25 is small game hunting everything from rats up to Coon and maybe very occasionally a coyote if he comes around. So what I'm leaning towards is power tunes and accuracy.

Get the Haji 2-stage trigger.....its night and day better than the factory one.

Trigger is meh for sure, I polished mine and my brothers triggers as well as checked the bolt mechanism as it is super stiff. Haji has some great mods as well. The odds are 100 percent the regulator won't be the fps they are telling you. Mine was at 1600 psi, and I adjusted it to 2100, added a 400 cc can, polished the ports, checked the barrel for any imperfections which I did find a couple of small burrs. Lapped both barrels and is sub moa at a 100. Additionally, it doesn't seem to struggle to shoot slugs accurately either. Once you get the knick knacks ironed out it's a solid performer. Enjoy them.

@Willie14228 - Thanks for the kind words regarding my video and tutorials.

The Umarex factory has correct a lot of the major issues as I pointed out in my review video of the .25 caliber. Yes, they still had the air stripper issue of them cracking when i reviewed initially but Umarex is rolling out enhancements like a beefier air stripper (see image A1).

Also right around the time, the .25 was introduced, Umarex swapped from Ninja Regulators to a Chinese or Taiwan manufactured unit which is about 13mm longer than the Ninja configuration. (See image A2)

As most folks know the Gauntlet is affordable because they are manufactured with as little machinist time as possible so therefore as @TNT19 has pointed out, taking the PCP apart and polishing, deburring, smoothing out edges and just general TLC will yield some serious performance increases. As @Bob_O points out the two stage trigger adds a much better and predictable break but I agree with @TNT19 100%, polishing and adjusting the single stage with just a lighter spring makes the stock trigger more than acceptable.

One of my biggest gripes with the Gauntlet is the inability to engage the safety if the airgun is cocked. I have modified my ownto allow it but it requires the sear to be grooved to allow the safety pushrod to articulate in either state.

If you are looking to do some hunting with the Gauntlet in .25 you will want to bump the regulator up from 1900PSI stock to 2100PSI and install my Super Tune Kit. This will allow you to deliver some very reasonable energy and group sub MOA at the same time.

I did receive your PM but will answer it here so any others reading the forum can benefit from the exchange. You asked if the Gauntlet in .25 would be a good candidate for slugs and I would have to say no, it is not a good choice for slugs. The Gauntlet has a 1:20.5 twist rate which is awesome for pellets but is way to slow for slugs. The other issue is the fixed plenum size on the Gaunty. She only has 21 to 22cc of plenum which means you would have to venture in the 2400PSI realm to be able to effectively fly the much heavier slugs.

I have built many Gauntlet Slug Slingers add they will deliver Nielsen Specialty Ammo 33.5gr slugs fairly well but not nearly as accurate as the high output pellet shooters that I tune. I hope I have answered your questions, if not...DING DING Round two! :)

Yeah, I discovered the safety switch issue right off don't like it at all

Does the other regulator adjust with shims like the ninja?

HajiHaji is the man. I watched all of his tutorials multiple times. I got my gauntlet to shoot the lighter slugs as Hajimoto pointed out the twist rate doesn't like the heavier slugs. A friend had some 29 grain and those are about the best I can see out of the gauntlet. As I have decided to keep my gauntlet I will definitely be looking into Hajimotos power tune kit.

@Willie14228 - Yessir it takes the same shims but I would seriously recommend a regulator tester so you know exactly where you are on the regulator output.
