Tuning Gauntlet 2 trigger tune

Of course the first thing I did when I got my new G2 was take it apart and make sure it was gunk free. The factory setting of the trigger was atrocious! about 3/8" of travel before a totally unpredictable break!! Upon closer inspection the trigger is basically the same design (translated into Chinese) as a Remington 700 trigger system. I was able to take all the creep out and right now it breaks at a very consistent 1 1/2 lb. The sensation is that you lay your finger on the trigger once on target and begin to apply pressure. My body just sort of knows the drill because it pretty much matches my competition gun trigger although that one is 1 LB. exactly. Just when you get on target and say to your self, "I should pull the trigger", the shot is gone. It's very very sweet.. All that magic with one tiny Allen wrench.

I think I tuned mine down to about 2-1/2 lbs with the factory spring. As you said, I used the same technique used to set a Remington 700 trigger. It was hard to measure the sear engagement because the sear had rounded edges instead of square corners, but I set mine to 0.016" + engagement. Over travel was set as close to zero as I could get it. Bounce test did not cause the gun to fire so I was fine with it. There is a bit of a catch just before it goes off but 1000% better than the excessive travel before it would break. I tried a ball point pen spring but it was to light to keep the sear engaged between shots. l can live with 2.5 lbs pull.

I did nothing special to access the pull weight screw. I think the Allen wrench I had may have had some rounded edges ground off it at one time to make it a little shorter. I didn't measure the sear engagement, just eyeballed it. In the haydays when I was tuning a couple of 700 triggers a month for friends, I have a small sliver of a sharpening stone that I was able to fir the tip into the hole where you see the sear. I was able to rig a setup that assured I was very flat on the surface and was able to stone the engagement surfaces of the trigger. It was amazing just how little motion and time had to be spent to make such an improvement. I have no plans to do that to this trigger. This is just fun stuff.

is it different from the Gauntlet 1?

on my Gen 1's I had to remove the back mounting screw to access the adjustment grub screw, but I was able to get them to operate very good.
I had to remove the action from the stock to do this, but it's the only real way to examine it.. While I do have some fine jewelers files I've used in the past on 700's and my 788, This had pretty sharp corners on the sear. I'm terribly happy with this trigger. from the factory the creep was not teneble. If I couldn't have done something simple I'd have sent it back..
