Gas Ram owners what scopes are you using

Not all gas rams have the same power ratings so knowing which make/model of gas rammed gun might help. Budget probably would too. In my case, I don't have any of the higher powered ones. Hatsan Model 95, Model 87, Norica Deadeye Gas rammed, Benji Prowler now owned by a friend.

Most did or are wearing Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 AO IR scopes. While I know Hawke states the Vantage line aren't rated for springers/gas rams over 12fpe, I haven't had any issues with mine. I also have a Hammers 3-9x40 that's been on several, a couple of those during break in and still works very well.

Nowadays, nothing is truly safe so if in doubt, either a Diana Bullseye ZR mount or a Sportsmatch Dampa mount should relieve any worries.

only gas ram i have is a crossman shockwave 22 cal the recoil is bad torn up two scopes in a year but have now installed a discovery optics the one with the pellet holder wheel and went with the type of mount that is a solid rail with a set screw and four allen screws dont no the name of mount but you will see it on amazon both scope and mount can be found for 40 dol it has held up 200 rds now holds zero and has not moved at all it also lites up and on 9 power 40 yrds a chipmunk is the size of the statue of liberty i am very happy with it has turned shockwave into a real threat

Josh,

My Benjamin (Crosman) Trail NP XL .22 came with a CenterPoint 3-9x40 scope mounted on a Picatinny rail. The recoil on that gun is heavy, but, so far, so good with the CenterPoint. (CenterPoint is a Crosman brand.) I changed scope rings today since I needed more eye relief. Here's a pic.

Steve, power rating, make/models is irrelevant. If you have a gas Ram, then I want to know what are you using. Pretty simple brother.

Honestly of the few CP scopes I had held up pretty good for the most part. Only gripe is they're big/bulky.

Josh,

Agreed on the big and bulky, but I was so impressed with this 3-9x40 CenterPoint's ability to handle the punishment, I found one a guy never used, on eBay (it came on a new gun, he replaced it right away) and put it on my Crosman F4 Nitro .177 to replace the OEM

CenterPoint 4X. I used this mount to keep the scope from coming loose in dovetail rails. WM

Models aside and just gas rams, the power actually does matter or at least it does in my oddball little air gunning world...lol.

I'll use Hatsan as the example. The 95 and lesser model gas rams have 125 bar or something like 1875 psi in them. The 125 and bigger rifles are charged to at least 135 bar if not more which is closing on 2000 psi. No way I'd put the same Vantage scope I use on my 95 on a 125 or 135 without either a Diana ZR or Dampa mount because the recoil from those bigger guns would eat that scope without a recoil absorbing mount.

We'd like to know PERIOD!!!!.Lol. Yea me too ! The scopes I were using back then were pretty low grade except for the last 1 which I can't remember for sure what it was,it may have been my 3-9 x 40 Hawke AMX,It did'nt break it (nice scope by the way) but the scope kept moving (twisting) in the rings, almost like it was too heavy. If it weren't that Hawke scope then I'm sure it would have been a mild step up from the others. Of course I don't have it anymore because it ,,broke? That,s just the nature of things.Anyways,,, I cut my losses and moved on from gas ram, again, nature of things. My 1 time experience explained. I had bought a Hatsan 105? Torpedo. I thought it was a nice rifle. It looked nice.Felt nice. Heavy (ok) BUT the pluses were,,,, checkered fore-arm maybe the pistol grip too, LOP was fine, Machining overall was on the plus side. Nice looking CARVED piece of wood. Never got the hang of it's trigger though. Or a pellet it preferred. If it weren't killing my scopes (3) maybe (4) I think,,, it was moving them in the scope rings AND OR the scope rings were creeping back in the 11mm grove on the receiver. Oh,and that includes using one of those 1piece rings mentioned by Benderville in his reply to this post. Nothing against those 1 piece rings. I would recommend those very rings to any body having issues with rings creeping back in the 11mm dovetail. Just not for that GAS RAM air rifle. PS,,What is a pellet holder wheel?

now that i looked at my first reply to you, it looked a bit standoffish or something a bit negative and I apologize if it came off or was taken that way. Steve the reason I mentioned it is because I have an adjustable ram or I better yet, I can adjust the amount of pressure in my ram. I have an RX2 in 20cal. hth

Two years ago I called Vortex as I heard their Diamondback scopes were springer rated. I had to verify and one quick call to vortex and now I know that future springers and gas rams will get the diamondbacks

I did myself and traded a few emails with a gentleman in Customer Service named Clay back in October who said I was more than welcome to share this info on air gun forums, soooo.....

Hope this helps anyone considering possible scopes for air rifles. 'Course...I'd also err on the side of caution and still consider either a Sportsmatch Dampa mount or the Diana Bullseye ZR if you can find one :)
