Gamo Whisper G2 questions...

Hello, thanks for the add. I searched and did not find anything exactly what I am asking, so I apologize if this is redundant.

My son and I purchased identical Whisper G2s in .22 from a reputable online store. We got the rifles and were very pleased. We purchased "bundles" and the rifles included a fixed 4x Gamo scope. Well, long of the short, I am not happy with the optics. The rifle is more accurate with the iron sights as it seems the zero is creeping with both scopes. I have emailed the company to see what they say.

Question is, what kind of luck have you guys had with optics on the G2? I feel the "shock" from the piston is very close the felt shock of my sons 150 lb. crossbow, which will murder a cheap red dot.

As a side note, what pellets have you guys found that your G2 likes best? And are there any trigger mods out there for it outside of the $40 drop in? I'm gun tinkerer...

Thanks again!

I have a Gamo Shadow 1000 that likes JSB Exact 8.4, H&N Barracuda Match 10.65 and Crosman 10.5 Ultra Mag in the tin. I recently put a Maccari tune kit in it and several years ago put the GRT trigger in it. I would complain about............nothing. I'm not a fan of synthetic stocks until I start thinking about taking one of my other rifles into the woods and trying to get steady against the side of a tree and then the synthetic stock starts to have merit. The cocking on my Gamo is incredibly light and smooth. The Maccari kit and a tin of pellets got rid of the twang. Please keep us informed on the G2 Whisper. I've been interested in whether the changes have made the gun easier to shoot. The reviews I have seen didn't inspire me, but I could see myself buyng a G2.
Try a one piece mount and get at least a 3-9AO scope. The Gamo 4X isn't worth putting on my Daisy 880.

I actually like the rifle. I took the scope off of it, and sighted in the "iron" sights. Even thought the front post is big and covers up the target, at 45ish yards I'm cracking a soup can that I have nailed to a tree off hand. A better trigger coupled with the "proper" pellet would greatly improve groups. Believe it or not, it seems to like the Gamo Hunter Dome and Crossman All Purpose Hunting Field Point. I want to try some others that I have been reading up on.

When you say Maccari kit and a tin of pellets, what exactly are you talking about? I'd be interested in quieting down the spring... it honestly sounds just like my son's recurve crossbow lol, although you really do not notice it when someone else is shooting it. Kind of like how an AR "feels" when you shoot it as opposed to hearing it from a couple feet away...

Update, found the kit, what tin of pellets are you talking about?

When I put the Maccari kit in, I lubed up the piston, tophat and spring with the moly goo and tar that I also ordered from Maccari. Polish the ends of the spring, cleaned and lubed everything and then blue loctite on all the screws. I had some intense dieseling on the first couple of shots. After I had gone through a tin of pellets (under 500) I realized the gun sounded different than it had before. I wasn't paying attention to when the twang eased up. I think the sound waves travel better through a synthetic stock than a wood stock, so the gun is still noisy to the shooter. Removing a Gamo Trigger is not a big deal, but you need to make a spring compressor if you are going to disassemble your springer. If I can do it, anybody can do it.
