Gamo Urban - Thoughts on this gun

I kind of wonder how the entry level shooter will pressurize to 3365 psi. I have no experience with hand pumps, but it would seem to me that an "entry level" gun like the Urban or the Buccaneer for that matter would be more easily used by a new shooter if it were designed for lower fill pressure (2500 psi or less), thus making a hand pump or scuba tank more practical.

The price is a bit high for true "entry" level. I bet it will be accurate because of the bsa barrel. My only negative thoughts would be the trigger and the ldc.

The trigger and ldc appear to be the same as used on gamo springer/gas rams. If they are indeed the same, the trigger will be absolutely horrible and the ldc won't be very effective. I am basing that off of my experiences with gamo break barrels.

If the price were $300-350, I might try one.

The Gamo Urban PCP air rifle is a quiet beast with up to 30 shots per fill. This bolt-action beauty boasts velocities up to 800 fps - more than what you need to get those critters with one quiet shot, and because of it's Whisper Maxxim Technology, it's a very quiet shooter.

The Urban PCP features the Shock Wave Absorber (SWA) recoil pad, a Custom Action (CAT) Trigger, a built in pressure gauge with quick fill port, and is constructed with a hand-forged rifled steel barrel.

You'll love the comfort and stealth of this PCP hunting air rifle.

I will admit though I do own a Gamo whisper fusion elite in .177 and I'm not the best shot with it BUT if I take my time and line up real good, control my breathing, slow my heart beat, and get a proper grip on the gun. I can throw the rifle and hit the target 7 out of 10 times at 15 yds which is not bad for a Gamo springer. That being said, the urban looks great and I think it will shoot great posaibly be a one hole shooter. I think they should sell a version with a nice wood stock but they are probably trying to keep the cost down which is good because it will allowe more people the chance to buy the gun. $399.00 right now for pre order, but a mspr of $450.00

I got the Gamo Urban .22 a couple weeks ago and here are my experience after putting about 200 plus pellets through.

Good:
1. Affordable, I got it at on sale price $299 from PyramydAir
2. Pretty accurate out to 50 yards with Crossman dome 14.3g pellets. have not tested further out nor trying different pellets.
3. Light weight even with scope.
4. Well built, the blues look uniform, no burr or sharp edges any where. Made in England.
5. Magazine is easy to put into chamber and hold by light magnetic catch.
6. Magazine is fully tucked underneath scope rail, so you can mount scope low.
7. Easy to pump with Hill pump. From 100 bar to 230 bar Requires about 100 strokes.
8. Relatively quiet for backyard blinking and pets elimination

Bad:
1. Trigger, trigger, trigger...the second stage has a long creep and springy. You just do not know when it .breaks. I am planning to upgrade the trigger soon.
2. Extra magazine is expensive. Value at 1/6 of the gun.
3. Plastic stock looks cheesy, hollow plastic stock does not help with balance of the gun. It is top heavy.
4. Need to buy male connector for the fill probe.

overall, I still like the gun.

If you change the rear screw of the SAT trigger (the 2nd stage one) for another one that is just a millimeter or so longer, you can get an AWESOME trigger (with a pull of even LESS than a pound!) This goes for all the GAMOs that have the so called SAT trigger. Awesome upgrade, and it makes ALL the difference in the world!
Legal disclaimer: Of course use your common sense. If not equipped so, do not try this at home. Professional at work on closed course, your mileage may vary. All liablity is waived upon trying this yourself
The silencer is unfortunately NOT removable, a gross error in my opinion. It looks like GAMO came to that same conclusion, as they are going to offer another one with a different moderator. (which seems to be removeable, so improvement there...) (featured in the next issue of Airgunner magazine, so then we'll know for certain)
