FX Superior Heavy Liner Twist Rate Not As Advertised

Just purchased a new FX superior heavy liner in .30

Advertised twist rate is 1 in 18"

Actual measured twist rate is 1 in 19.25"

I just noticed other members reporting the same thing. What's up with the difference in spec ?

How did you measure it? Are you sure you measured correctly? That's such a close number. Are you 100% sure you did it correctly? (not trying to be insulting, I have def. I tried to measure twist rates before and gotten different numbers a couple of times, haha) anyway, I just measured my .30 600 MM on my heavy, and I got 1:18. I also haven't seen anyone else complain about "off twist rates" with the superior liner. I have seen people buying them from dealers and receiving a different twist rate, like ordering a heavy and getting the 1:22 twist rate. I saw that on Instagram about six months back. I thought and was talking to someone about it cause it had the sticker, but we came to the conclusion that the sticker was just added wrong somewhere down the line, and I think they called FX USA and was able to get it replaced. Anyway, I got a .30 700, and I got Superior .25 600 and a .30 superior 700 going to check those ill let you know what I get back!

When the rifling is pressed in from the outside it's hard to go wrong. Mark a groove at the end and lay a straight edge on top. Trace the groove around.

Very true, wasn't trying to insult you. I checked my other twist rates on my 5 barrels (all superior) mine were on point. Based on what I have seen and what I have at home, I wouldnt say "not as advertised" and accuse them of lying just seems like a huge accusation.....you may have just got a bad one... I would just get a replacement if you think it disrupts your goals with that liner. I think if this was an issue with a lot of liners we would see more post like this and a lot more commenting "hey mine too". Then I think you'd have a good argument for "why the false advertising." Anyway, good luck !

I'm not upset about it, my point is why not sell it for what it is. If someone had a specific goal in mind based on the faster advertised twist rate they would have a problem. I only purchased to see if it was "superior" since I shoot 66gn slugs. I've seen others mention the same measured twist rate of 19.25 on this forum. FX doesn't just say heavy or light, they specify a twist rate. I don't feel the need to tiptoe around it. Maybe you're just reading it with more emotion than intended. I'm a very nice and polite person but I'm also very direct which leads people to make assumptions when reading my text that they would not when speaking in person. I'll edit my original post to be less upsetting. Maybe FX will respond tomorrow.

At RMAC, I heard they were slowing the twist rates back down on the .30cal pellet liners. Might be a similar situation with the Heavy liners.

I also thought they were laser engraving the liner info on the side of the new liners?

I bought mine a few weeks ago from new stock. There is no laser engraving. Nothing wrong with changing the specs as long as you change the advertisement at the same time to avoid confusion.

I wish FX would produce slug liners with no choke to achieve best results with slugs.

All liners are now being engraved from the factory. Of course it takes time for non-engraved stock to filter through depending on stock levels, but no difference between the non-engraved and engraved twist rates. The engraved will have the benefit of showing the twist, caliber and item number to avoid confusion and mix up for those with multiple liners.

Haven't changed the listed twist rates. Happy to replace a liner that might be out of spec (as that happens with machining). Though technically a slight difference in twist effects things, in our testing a slight + or - will really not effect your accuracy. Again though, happy to swap out liners if you have one that falls out of what is listed.

Thank you for clarifying.

I'm about 200 miles from your location so how long will it take to get the replacement if we swap ?

Thank you for the great customer service but I've decided to keep this one for testing slugs with the choke removed.

I would really love to see a true .3000 bore slug liner with no choke since that's the only diameter NSA offers their .30 slugs in. When I remove the choke I'll have to shoot .301 slugs since that's the bore diameter I'll be left with.
