FX Streamline .22 or .25cal?

Okay, so I want to be buying an airgun within the next 3 months or less, and I have all the parts I need for it picked out (I'll list them at the end of this), but I can't decide on .22 or .25 caliber ammo. I think the deciding factor for me will be the fpe at power one, and the fpe at power two. On the .22 cal at power three I'd be pulling 30-34fpe, at power two I'd be pulling 20-25 fpe, and at power one I'd be pulling 8-12 fpe. This is a pretty optimal for me, because I'd like the option to shoot indoors (a barn or something) for pest critters. A sub 12fpe gun would be ideal for that, BUT the more I think about it, I also want to have good power out to 100 yards, and maybe a little beyond. If you're going to have an accurate gun, why not utilize it. And down here there's not a whole lot of pests to hunt (please, correct me if I'm wrong, just moved here from Ohio a few months ago, and the only varmints I know of is Coyotes and Crows, and I've only seen a few of the later. I'm in the panhandle just north of Panama City here), and the ones we have, you are going to have a hard time getting close to, and they're a bit big (coyotes). So I'm curious if I'd be better off with a .25. But, if it wasn't hard enough to decide with this, I also really enjoy plinking. I can go out for no more than an hour and spend 200 pellets. So shot count is going to be important to me as well. I know the streamline does really well with shot count, but if I recall correctly, you only get 38-45 shots on power three (varies by how it's adjusted with that screw that everyone strips...), and I think 60 shots on power two? No one ever talks about power one on the .25 cal though, so no idea how many shots, or what fpe they're shooting at. I heard someone say that the 25 cal gets 20 fpe on power 1, and 24 fpe on power 2, but I can't see how that makes any sense, since .22 has a 12+ fpe difference. I would think the .25 cal on power one would get closer to 15 fpe?
Whatever I get, I plan on getting a marauder or Hatsan Gladius in the opposite cal later (if .22 - Gladius, if .25 - Marauder). Or if my budget keeps improving, maybe an FX Crown ('cause who doesn't want an FX Crown?)
Also, how does the accuracy compare between the FX Streamline .25 and .22 cal? From what I've seen, .22 gets .3-.5" at 50 yds ctc, and 1.2" at 100yds, but I'm yet to see a 100yd group, which isn't effected by wind, or some other strange factor.

PS: Where can I get an Airgun Silencer in the states? I know I can get a hugget on AoA, but I'd really like to get a Weihrauch, or a QTech... Or VTech? I dont remember to be honest, Matt Dubber did a review on it, and it was "mouse fart" quiet.

Parts:
  • FX Streamline
  • Air Venturi G7S Hand Pump (will switch to scuba tank and Yong Heng compressor later if needed)
  • Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50 FFP Scope
  • Rudolph Optics Swivel Pivot Bipod RG-B1327 (13"-27")
  • Weihrauch 1/2" UNF Moderator if I can find one in the U.S.
  • JSB Diablo Exacts (I'll buy a few different brands of pellets though, to see what works best, but these seem to be everyone's choice for the streamline. These and the H&N Barracudas if I recall correctly)

Cheers!

Long post lots of info.seems u know the deal i personally like the larger cal. And with the power wheel multi options in fpe. .check out. @Hynzie Thanks, I've seen Donnie's moderators around, but couldn't find out where to get one. They're a bit pricier than I assumed, but still only half the price of the hugget. AEAC's video was fantastic, but was for .22. Same with Matt's video. Haven't seen anyone with the streamline in .25 give a review. A FFP scope for $360 can't be all bad, and I hear it has better glass than the Hawke scopes, so really looking forward to seeing it in person. I have a 4-16x44 UTG Accushot on my Hatsan 125 right now, but the reticle is a bit thick for my liking. I'll contact Donnie after I get the air rifle, since it could be a few months. I have enough cash to buy it all right now, but I'm gonna see about getting a truck first. Also, I'd like to at least give the pump a shot, since I could really use the exercise (I'm a 3d artist, so I don't get away from my PC much), but if it proves too much, I can pick up a scuba tank pretty much anywhere (30 min from beach, and yard sale season is coming up, haha), and I can get a compressor for $300, so price won't be a real issue.

@intenseaty Yeah, having a long gun really won't be an issue I don't think. I have a Hatsan 125, and it's twelve inches longer than the Streamline, but it's length has never been a problem for me.

Another thing to consider with .22 vs .25 is how much you shoot. Generally, .22 will give you more shots per fill and you get more pellets per tin and they’re cheaper so you can shoot more for the same money.

I like the .22 in an adjustable power gun because you can get .22 pellets from 14gr up to 34gr so you can use the heavier ones for larger game and go lighter for feathers or paper. Just make sure your gun can push the heavier ones. For example, my Pulsar HP can push the 34gr JSB at 50 FPE on high power.

@Maineiac Yeah, and since I shoot a lot, .22 would be better for plinking, but the issues with using heavier pellets, is accuracy. They may be more powerful, but they likely won't be as accurate as the guns favorite pellet, limiting you to a 25-30yd range. 25 cal could use it's favorite pellet at longer ranges though. Another thing is, even with the heavier pellet, the diameter of the .25 causes a concussion in most smaller animals, which makes for a cleaner kill. At least according to Ted Bier's video on the subject. I'm actually leaning more towards Ted's video to be honest, as I do plink a lot, and I like the 9fpe on power one, but if the .25 has 12fpe or less on power one, I may get it instead, since it makes for cleaner kills, and allows longer ranges.

Aztec Emerald's look great, but they're still SFP. For airguns especially, I think the FFP will prove invaluable, but I don't know, as I've never shot with one.

Given you plan on pumping, if you shoot a lot the lower shot count of a .25 will get you in great shape! The Streamline operates on a 3300 psi fill, so pumping may get old quick. If you decide on a scuba tank, look for a 3300 psi model. It won't fill your gun to 3300 psi, but you'll get more use out your air. An expensive carbon fiber tank is probably the best choice to go with your compressor. From your post it looks like you'll eventually have multiple guns, so I'd say go with your gut and get started shooting.

With stock factory settings, on power 3 with a 250 bar fill my .22 Streamline gets 63 31fpe shots before falling off the regulator. Power level 2 16fpe. Power level 1 8fpe. I would have preferred to have 10-12fpe on setting 1 and 18-20fpe on setting 2 and it could probably be adjusted to get that, but I use level 3 exclusively so I haven't bothered. I haven't counted shots on power 1 and 2 but it would be considerably more. If you're going to hand pump, I'd go with .22 cal.

Given any thought to the Impact? Large onboard air reservoir. Like 60 shots and still on the regulator in a .25. It's not issue if you want a different caliber. You can get 4 different barrels for the Impact. .177 to .30. It's about $500 for a barrel change but you keep the scope on the gun so no need for a new scope should you choose to change calibers. Hard Air Magazine, a sponsor here, did a big review on it and gave it about a 97 out of a hundred. They say they have only given that rating to one other rifle. Just more to consider I guess.
Don't know your vintage but I have an Aztec Emerald and the reticle with the really thin lines makes the ones with heavier reticles more useful with my older eyes.

Dang, now it's pretty much a coin flip. A 12fpe 25 cal hollowpoint shouldn't penetrate through stuff like pigeons, and stuff should it??
Here's a list of pros and cons. Let me know how far I'm off here.

25. Cal
Pros:
  • More Accurate Long Range
  • More fpe and for longer distances for hunting
  • Flight path is often less effected by wind
  • Longer barrel may mean better accuracy
Cons:
  • Less shots per fill
  • Harder to refill with pump
  • Ammo is more expensive
  • Shots have more drop than .22 at long range
  • Less likely for the pellet to stay in the target on 12fpe as opposed to 8fpe
.22 Cal
Pros:
  • Cheaper ammo
  • More shots per fill
  • Smaller air cylinder, and thus easier to fill
  • Flat trajectory long range
  • More useful power settings, aside from power 3 being a bit weak.
  • I already own a .22, and they can share ammo
  • 4x As Many Options for Ammo
Cons:
  • Shots are more effected by wind long range
  • Shots on critters larger than a squirrel, may be less lethal than that of a .25
  • Bigger variety of pellets to choose from
  • Loses power quickly on long range shots
Yeah, after thinking about it, I think the .22 would be the best option for me right now. There's 27 kinds of ammo available on Pyramyd Air right now for the .25, but 108 kinds for the .22. The .25 ammo, weighs in up to 40 grain, but most is between 25 and 30. The .22 has a few options above 30 grain, including one JSB pellet which is 34 grain. I'm sure the .25 will have more fpe regardless, and will have better stopping power, but it'll cost $16.99 for 350 shots, when the .22 is $16.99 for 500. I suppose the difference in minimal though.

Does anyone a PCP in .22 and in .25 (preferably the same gun)? Which do you prefer to shoot?

@tiptop That's a good number, and 31 fpe is a respectable number. Have you shot any squirrels with it yet?

@18.13 Thanks, this is awesome!

@Jim81 I considered it, but it's bit outside of the budget I'm comfortable with for now. I said FX Crown earlier because it's sporting the new Smooth-TwistX barrel. But the impact it is a lovely gun regardless. I think $500 is a bit much for a barrel, but you are practically getting a new gun with every barrel, so it's a great value in that sense.
As far as scopes, I have good eyes, and hopefully will for a long time (I'm 16, 17 in a month), so a thin reticle would be better, where I can see more of my target behind it, and get such.
