FX Smooth Twist versus Smooth Twist X cleaning ?

So, personally, my STX barrels shooting JSB pellets don't require cleaning currently. That said, they weren't always that way and that is just one lead alloy. I suspect what cleaning your gun requires will depend on what you're shooting and how fast you're shooting it.

Here is the thing though: just let your gun tell you when it needs to be cleaned. Know your rifle, and track your shooting; when accuracy starts to fall off, it is time for cleaning. No big deal. If accuracy is still excellent, don't clean it as typically barrels need a bit of lead to shoot well anyway.

Hope that helps!

My sample is limited to one of each, so take it for what it's worth. I had a Crown .22 with STX sleeve-and-liner system, and I currently have a Royale 400 with the original ST solid barrel, no liner/sleeve assembly, also a .22. The STX Crown liner was relatively quick to foul, and I had to clean frequently. I don't know what the shot count would have been, I just cleaned when accuracy started to fall off, I would guess 100-150 shots. My Royale ST barrel virtually never needs cleaning. Maybe one, or both are anomalies, but that's my experience.

I’m with Ed @elh0102. I have a .30 FX Bobcat with ST barrel. I‘ve cleaned it 3 times in the past 3 years. Maybe every 1500 to 2000 rounds. I also have a .22 Crown with STX barrel that needed to be cleaned every 150 rounds. But after I polished the liner (JB), it only needs cleaning about every tin of pellets or 500 rounds.

Mike, great fun yesterday! I rarely have to clean my Royale or Boss (both original Smooth Twist). IF I happen to notice slight spiraling I'll run a few patches through (1st one lubed). One of the reasons I love that platform. LOW MAINTENANCE aside from great accuracy & repeatability. After yesterday I think I'm getting the "slug gun" itch. Might ask for some advice on scratching it.

Thanks for the replys. I was around 1300 rounds when the group started opening up a little. I cleaned it and shot 100 rounds or so through it and its back shooting through the same hole at 50 yds. Wasn't sure about the STX seemed everywhere I read it was concerning the smooth twist and not cleaning even after thousands of shots.

What rifle is this?
