FX Royals

I pretty much got out of PCP’s awhile ago. That said, in the back of my mind I always thought of getting another Daystate Huntsman or perhaps a FX Royal 400. Seems like the Royal 400 fell out of favor due to upgraded technology or something, but have not read anything about them in some time.
Should I consider another brand or model? I am not a tinkerer. I want to load and shoot from 50 100 yards

I'm not a fan of most of the newer FX offerings, but I believe the Royale platform is their best, and the only one I would own. I have a Royale 400 and love it. The Daystate is also excellent. The Royale is more adjustable, higher shot count. The Daystate is a more traditional design, and a better trigger. Because of the slimmer forend (cylinder vs. bottle), the Daystate might suit me better as a woods rifle. For your stated purpose, either would be more than adequate.

If you are only wanting to shoot from 50 feet to 100 feet you can just buy a cheaper gun like the Crosman Kral made guns like these that would shoot accurate enough for your distances and each have a 5 year warranty and shoot consistent enough don't need regulators to go bad.

Cheaper direct from Crosman with 25% off AGNATION discount code and order Friday morning for free shipping.

Crosman's 5 year warranty can't be beat and you can buy 2 of these for the price of the Daystaye or all 3 for the price of the FX.

I own most of the Fx rifles including 2 Impacts, a couple of Daystates, one AirArms, and a bunch of Crosmans. My go-to gun is the Royale 400. It is always on, first shot, never gets cleaned or adjusted. I will never sell it!

Pretty much the same boat for me as well.

I traded off my .177 Royale 400 a few years back on a deal for a .177 Crown, and I have pined over the 400 ever since.

The Crown shoots quite well, but the Royale was effortless, consistent, and constant.

Sorry, I edited my original post to 50 to 100 yards.

This changes things. If you want good accuracy at 75-100 yards, you should consider a HP rifle. The Royale 400 is great out to 50 or so, but 100 yards is asking too much of a 28-30 fpe rifle, IMO.

What? Mine was set up at 32 fpe and could regularly bust 2" apples off the tree out back at 97 yards. This was off a window sill.

I think your be very happy with the Royale 400. Great guns and very accurate and dependable. Id also agree with above should be no issue shooting out to 100yds from it. I'm shooting my Edgun R5M at 20fpe in .177 at 100yds with no issues. And pesting at that. And have been shooting .22s that far in the 30fpe range for along time with no issues

I believe your level of satisfaction with the Royale at 100 yards will vary directly with the size of your target, and your purpose. Can you hit tin cans and apples at 100 yards with it, yes, not every shot, but enough to be fun. If you are shooting a BR target at 100 yards, your results are going to be poor, as compared to a high power rifle shooting a heavier and higher BC pellet. That's why those rifles were designed, and why they dominate in 100 yard competition. If your expectations are realistic, there is absolutely nothing wrong with plinking at 100 yards with a Royale.

I'm sorry if the performance with yours is not what I experienced with mine. A hundred yard bench gun it is not. Capable of holding 2 inch groups at 100 it is. Yes apples and tin cans and pest birds every time if I've done my part. More than plinking and hoping in my opinion. I believe Ted did a review on one. I think 8 out of ten shotgun hulls at 100. Not a bench gun but very capable.

I know you speak highly of the Royale.and mine wouldn't shoot like that until I polished the transition part of the bore where it goes from smooth to the twist. Just how there put together. Sometimes there's a small ledge there that leads up quickly and shows up further downrange. Might be worth the effort if your so inclined.

I’ll second the Royale 400 as being a wonderful airgun. I’ve spoken to some of the guys at AOA and they thought it was the best gun FX ever produced (their opinion not mine).

I’ve handled the Huntsman a few times and I would love to own one. You certainly can’t go wrong with either.

I’ve taken many birds at 100 yards and beyond with my Royale (Hawkeye69 can attest). With an 18gr pellet it’s all about your wind call and drop data at 100 yards and beyond.

About a year ago I was plinking with the Royale at 100 yards in dead calm conditions and hitting a 2” spinner got boring.

The shot count of the Royale is another plus and if your an average size fella the stock feels amazing.
