FX problems with time tested models !!!!!

Its strange that the most reliable model of FX series i.e. Royale 400 .22 faces such a problem that reflects that FX does need a review of its quality control procedures.

Almost every new Royale 400 .22 which comes to me has complaint that it blows the breach O ring within 60 or 70 shots. This is very much disturbing for those who purchase this gun brand new and dont know how to replace the O ring.

What I understand is that either the pellet probe or the transfer port groove in which the O ring sits is out of specs.

This is worth noticing for Mr. Fredrick other wise such tiny issues can attract bad name to the brand.

It is strange my friend that all your posts seem to bash FX, both here and on the yellow. You ask questions that seem to indicate your lack of knowledge of air rifles and claim to have problems that you ask about on several forums. I know a few people have had some issues with their rifles which would be nice if they never happen, but FX sells an awful lot of rifles and certainly problems will arise.
O-rings are the weak point on all PCP air rifles and must be replaced periodically, I don't think there are many folks replacing their breech o rings every 60-70 shots. If that is the case, I would wonder if you are using the wrong size or hardness or if you are installing them correctly.
Every one of my PCP rifles has had to have a o ring replaced from time to time. That is not a quality issue, that is normal maintenance.

You have left me quite speechless.

Let me please introduce myself to you. I am around 45 years old and am in the hobby of air gunning since I was 13.

At that time I had nice springers and I went all the way up to Diana 54 Air King .22. I did tune it and not only mine but at least 6 more 54 and 3 more 56. I also tuned many RWS 34.

Then I started with pcp. My first pcp was HW100 .22 30 ftlb. I went inside out of it a few times in search of accuracy. Discussed it with some renowned tuners of UK and USA. Ultimately I rebarreled it with LW blank and all accuracy issues resolved in one go.

Fx royale 400 is one of my favourite guns. When the first time the breach O ring blew away, I contacted FX company. They are nice people. Fx sent me a few Breach O rings. I installed them one by one and no one worked beyond 100 shots.

Then I called Fredrik and talked to him on this issue. He very generously sent me a new transfer port in which the O ring sits. He also sent a few more O rings. But still in vain.

Since I tune pcps , many people over here contact me on their issues and blowing out of breach O ring in just around 70 shots is their common issue.

O ring is a weak link but none of other brands of pcps get damaged so soon.

I plan to talk to Fredrik again on this issue.

You may be more in the know than I am but I know what I do.

I have all respect for fx because they are still standing behind their product. But there should not be such need especially on repetitive basis.

Mr. mubhaur While I really like this site it is FX fan boy central. If you write anything other than a positive FX experience you will be called on it. In my limited view FX is a leader in innovation, creativity and engineering. It appears they lack the ability to expand production while maintaining quality control one has every right to expect of a premium brand. I would very much like to add one of their products, Streamline, to my gun safe but not until they can get their QC act together.

Ginuwine1969I've got over 6000 round thru my vulcan Tactic and 10000 thru my air arms and haven't replaced a single o-ring yet. I know one day i will have too but haven't had to yet.

+1 on the air arms. Another gun that uses a thimble just like the FX. My S500 has close to 10,000 rounds through the same oring. A bit of silicone oil when it starts to feel rough and on I go.

If you take the bare essentials of this oring problem as they have been stated in this post.............it's an oring problem, not a problem with the gun itself. It is not at all hard to believe that a manufacturer who buys 100k orings in a single purchase could get a run of poor quality orings.

I will say before make the next statment that the bobcat probe is quite different than the royale, and may be contributing to this problem. With that said:

We use an fx bobcat mk1 (at least 4yrs old) to test new mags before they ship to the customers........it has at least (since I started paying attention to the amount of pellets we go through) 10,000 full power shots on the ORIGINAL breach oring. The oring itself is coated in lead and has no tears, dings, or dents in it's surface.

I recently was researching a potential purchase of an fx400 and searched the site for all posts that mention the rifle. Nearly every single time there was a negative post or complaint about some problem with the gun, the poster was you. Just an observation. Perhaps it is a language issue, but you give the appearance of someone who just wants to bash the brand. All guns will have a problematic example now and then. I'm sorry if you got one, but your thread title seems to imply an across the board quality problem with fx and I do not believe that is fair.

full disclosure: I did get that Royale 400 and it has been brilliant.

I have a Royale 400 from AOA for just six months now with around 2000 pellets or so, and is on my 4th o-ring. The stock o-ring lasted about 800 pellets or so, i then replace them with polyurethane o-ring (Abrasion-Resistant, High-Strength, Dash Number 009) from McMaster, lube with krytox gpl 226. The first polyurethane o-ring lasted about maybe 500 pellets, second one around 600 to 700 pellets. All three o-ring has a cut on on their side, and i cant recall if the cut is on the pellet probe side or not.
I too will like to know if it's normal for when a breech o-ring fail, it's suppose to have a small cut on it's side.
