Tuning FX Maverick tuning - I don’t get it

I am tuning my FX Maverick Sniper in .25 and are running 155 on first reg and 130 on second reg and want to be able to shoot lighter (30/33 grains) slugs as well as FX Hybrid Slugs and JSB MK2. My problem is that I that I can not get the highest fps on power setting 7 - it is shooting faster at 5/6 and when that is happening my understanding is that I need to adjust the fine adjuster CV or I need to increase the 2 reg pressure. No matter how much i turn the fine adjuster CV the problem stay the same and now the fine adjuster screw is almost turned all the way in (1-2 mm) and I know I am doing something wrong here but can not figure out what to do. Anyone with suggestions?

Ja 130 bar / yeah 130 bar seem a bit much, but you might be wasting air with your current setting, mind you i am just on the .177 peashooter caliber as i do not have a jagttegn.

Otherwise i would like to up my Maverick to .25 too

Set your hammer dial to #7 and back the adjustment screw all the way out ( too far out and the gun can not be cocked ), and then start with 100 bar in the shot pressure / #2 reg

Then turn the adjustment screw in to decrease your power, if #7 dial and 100 bar are not enough speed with the adjustment screw all the way out, then you might need to up the #2 reg pressure a little.

IMO så skal du nok ikke højere op end 110 bar, som jeg også tror de kommer fra fabrikken af ( .177 / 90 bar - .22 / 100 bar and .25 / 110 bar or something along those lines )

My maverick had the adjustment screw all the way in so on #7 on the dial it was just shooting 500 or so FPS with monster redesign, meaning when i got the FX crono i couldn't even measure the speed on the high power airgun profile as it was too low, so had to use one of the other profiles on the crone.

Do you have a crono ?

I am in Randers

PS: dont be embarrassed i managed to walk down a one way street with my maverick too, but i am out of that now, though i still cant get the damn gun to shoot as i would expect, which is at least like "my" 10 year old .22 Cyclone.

Yes I have a crono and I will try to lower the reg pressure to see what is happening. When I tune my M3 I max out valve and hammer and then adjust the 2 reg pressure to 10 fps more than I am looking for and than I take out hammer and value until I get to the decried speed and have the needed consistency. When I try that approach (without the valve that is missing on the Maverick) I end up have max speed on 5/6 instead of 7 and I am trying to understand why.

I am in Sorø

You got a M3 too, damn you must be hooked on this :) i assume also in .25

I was planning to buy a coltri compressor this spring, but now with the Maverick annoying the hell out of me, i am considering getting another gun.

And then hopefully down the line with a membership of a benchrest / FT club ( if we get one established ) up to a larger caliber on the Maverick.

It is a damn thing i am on a pension so money are tight as it is, and i did not plan for having 2 rifles in the same little caliber.

Me being me,,,,, meaning my hands very often overtake my brain, i had my .177 at 130 BAR too, but i am back at the factory 90 / 100 bar and have no problem pushing the Monster redesigns at 1000 FPS and the beasts over 900 FPS too.

And i wanted that as really i wanted to have the gun set up so i could shoot heavier pellets with it, or lighter slugs at faster FPS, without too much adjusting on the knobs and levers.

I can get the monster redesigns to shoot pretty well but all the way down near 500 FPS, if i try speeds in the 850 / 950 FPS range my groups just fall apart, which i do not understand why, as those speeds should be okay with the monster redesigns.

But it is the same with the heavy pellets too, and i haven't even dared to try any of my slugs in the gun yet.

I have the same feeling with my Maverick - I have never been able to get the dame thing to short to a level where it is useable for hunting so I think I will get rid of it and just keep my M3 (.22) which is laser accurate also on +150 meters.

I have not yet 100% given up on the Maverick and can see that people (on YouTube) shoot fine with the gun but so far I have not being able to get my Maverick to work.

If i shoot a magazine on 50 M ( and with next to no wind ) i often get 3 large holes beside each other with 3 - 4 - 5 pellets in each, and then the rest are "all over the place", okay still within 2" or so, but still that inconsistency are driving me nuts, and i have tried 4 different batches of the monster redesigns to rule out tricky pellets.

And i dont get why the heavies are worse, really at 50 M they should shoot just as good as the monster redesigns, but they are even worse,,,, thankfully i just got 4 thins of those.

ATM i want to clamp down my gun to 100% rule out shooter error ( i am on a new scope too )

Really i just want to shoot and be happy, but i get up from behind the Maverick every time feeling frustrated, and i have to shoot a couple of magazines in "my" .22 cyclone to feel good and know i can still shoot.

Also feel like my POI shift from magazine to magazine, and thats on top of the erratic landing pattern i see. for sure i have never dialed as much on scope turrets as i have with the Maverick.

I have a Maverick .25 and a .22. The .22 started as a .177 but wasn't super happy with the performance of the .177 so I converted it to a .22. Both the 25 and the 22 are extremely accurate with pellets. I shoot the 33gr 920fps with the 25 and the 25gr 900fps with the 22. I have tried some slugs, but I think I will need to get the heavy liner to get the accuracy I'm looking for! Are you guys using the light or heavy liner?

I have both the superior and superior heavy liner and the slug power kit and have been trying slugs from 29 grains and to 38,5 grains and have not been able to get the accuracy and consistency I need for hunting. I guess I will try shooting pellets instead to see where it gets me but being a hunter living in a country where it often blows slugs is the way to go - fortunately I have a M3 that are laser accurate with slugs

I was not aware it was legal to hunt with airguns here, then again i am not a hunter myself so dont keep taps on such matters.

Clearly a airgun can take whatever, but as you know Denmark,,,,, is often something else, and not always in a good way.

When did they institute the annual test for hunters ? i assume it is something new, maybe in the light that some get a hunting permit just to be able to have a weapon at home, but not for hunting.

Before my .22 became illegal for me to own, we tried to join a shooting club in Århus, and we could but we could not shoot our rifles there, but we could buy a rifle just like it thru the club and that would then be okay to shoot,,,,,, so no.

Also we really want to shoot benchrest and FT, and no clubs here that shoot that, at least not here in the dark Jutland. None of us have any interest in shooting any Olympic discipline, and my friend cant do that due to severe arthritis him just carrying the weight of his own arms are almost too much.

FX must have run out of those hammer spring adjustment screws ( grub screws ), mine is a regular screw like this, though with a smaller hex

I have contemplated swapping it for a round head screw as i have those galore as i often use them in the RC hobby.

Thanks for sharing the tuning video.

I have setup the first and second regs and that is the easy part. Funny that on the YouTube video it kind of looks like just set the regs and then it shoot perfect ES less than 5 fps - I just have to say this has not been the case with my Maverick and if I can get a ES below 30 fps it has to be a very good day.

I know I am probably doing something wrong and will try the approach where i max out the hammer fine adjuster and start with 100 bar on the second reg and the gradually increase the pressure (on setting 7) until the gun start loosing speed - that must be the sweet spot and if that dos not work I give up and stick to the M3.

This is the new adjustment screw from FX. They offer it as a warranty replacement.

Find where you start losing speed and then back the hammer spring down till you get a low ES

Just did a little maintenance on compact. Remove wheel, pulled hammer adjuster and set to 5.98 ( close as I could to 6mm). Shot up and down the wheel. Like my regular shooting to be somewhere in the middle of wheel. Shooting JSB 25g. @888 Es 5 SD2.2, wheel 3 , ( wheel 4 was 898 ES9 SD3.5). Zeroed 25 yes w/ IO 10X40. Shooting 1 ragged hole @42!.

This allows me to crank up for slugs or 34g.

If you cant get yours to settle down, back up and start over! Itll come in. Go slow and deliberate. Up and down till you hit!

You may want to tinker with the different hammer weights. The way I tune mine. Start at 90ish bar. Turn IHS all the way to the right. Then do quarter to half turns until the FPS does not increase. This will be the max for that reg pressure. Just keep doing this until you get your desired FPS you want. Always test on 7. That way you will have the max at 7 and you can back down power at the other settings.
