NEW FX MAVERICK: Any thoughts?

I'm just thinking more on the identities of the impact vs maverick. If I were looking to buy my first high end fx airgun today, why would I select the impact over the maverick, and vice-versa? Initial impressions to me suggest they hit a slam dunk with the maverick, and I'm probably just a bit jealous I can't afford one myself right now (dang holiday shopping...)

But also,,,why couldn't they have designed the maverick with the impact high capacity magazines? Methinks to keep the impact on a higher prestige? One can only wonder...

Notice that the Maverick has the safety in the rear, like my Wildcat. It is not idea to reach over to your armpit to deactivate the safety.

The Dreamline and Impact has the safety near the trigger.

I’ve been in the market for a new airgun for a while now. Saving up and all. I’ve been going back and forth between the wildcat, and the impact, and the rti priest/prophet. I want it all in an airgun, high shot count, accuracy, compact for hunting, and price point. Unfortunately the price point is the one that I have resigned to expand a little. I feel the maverick may just be the answer for my wants/needs. I’m pretty excited to see this.

I like the concept of the dual regs, but the charts in the video by AirArmsHuntingSA

seemed to show a larger extreme spread for the Maverick than the AG's which he was comparing shot strings.

Maybe not, but it looked that way to me.

Still, I like the concept of dual regulators. It makes sense.

I noticed that as well? Maybe the hammer wasn't tuned with the regulator as well as it could have been? I was shooting some different pellets in my Cricket today and noticed the H&N's had a tighter spread than the JSB's but they shot like a scatter gun in my Cricket?

When paintball markers were all about efficiency and consistency, they sported 2 sometimes 3 or 4 regulators to step down the pressure so each regulator is in their own sweet spot. Early days, it would take 350-425psi to propel a .68 cal paintball 300fps. Nowadays, they can run at approximately 200psi to achieve 300fps.

I too, ordered one last night, can't wait to get it over a chrono and see how consistent the Maverick is!

I’m not sure what niche FX is attempting to fill with the Maverick. I guess only time will tell if it’s a winner for both the buyer and FX. At $1599 for the Compact and $1699 for the Sniper both are still out of the hands of most folks. If the price for a FX Maverick vs an Impact is the only deciding factor, then I’d suspect FX will be selling a lot of Mavericks. It’s almost an Impact but it’s not an Impact. I started with an FX Streamline and I still have it. I wanted the options the Impact had/has, higher shot count, higher magazine capacity, flexibility to shoot pellets or slugs at higher velocity, lots of accessories and more. The Maverick appears to bring the same to the shooter at a lower cost. Will I be rushing to buy one, probably not, I have an Impact.

I would like to see a compact, lighter, hunter friendly, meaning able to carry around the woods hunting for those darn fuzzy tailed tree rats without giving out from lugging so much weight and still be able to shoot the eyes out of a crow at a 100yrds. Now that would be ideal and would probably cost more than I would want to pay.

I look forward hear from the new owners of the FX Maverick and their first hand experience.

I am trying to figure out what niche this fills.....It is great it is a bit cheaper than an Impact but a bit more than the MK3 which puts out similar power in a slightly different form factor.

Dual AMP regs is great IF they work as they should but let's face it FX regs are not exactly known for reliability and consistency.....So if they have issues can two Huma regs be installed (another 200 plus dollars). Seems overly complicated to me and not sure what problem it solves....If the AMP regs are the weak link why not spend development time dialing those in and give us one reg that works flawlessly instead if two so so regs?

Also barrel kits, are they proprietary to the Maverick? Not that most of us swap calibers but I do like different lengths and already have two drawers of Impact, Crown, Dreamline, Wildcat MK3 kits etc....

Will I buy it....Yeah, already have an email out to Jeff at Trenier. The big question is will I keep it......

Maverick use the STX barrel system, yes you can use your crown, ST, DL, WC mk3 and impact barrels and the proper shroud to fit. fX carry all parts to convert up to .30 cal. — HUMA has the same original AMP design same amount of orings the only difference is the floating delrin seat and I repair HUMA a lot basically the same failure rate but FX has thousands out there and only hand full of hundreds for the HUMA reg.

it is a wildcat in an Impact chassis! Dream pup has the safety way back there and even the cocking lever. Impacts action is in the main block and that’s why it can have the safety right at the thumb. Personally I don’t use the safety often because I don’t like to leave my gun cocked and loaded. My only gripe is small mag, one gets spoiled with the Impact’s 28 round mag.
