FX Maverick .30cal FX Hybrid Slugs Accuracy

I was hoping to use the standard barrel at 600mm and not have to fiddle too much. I just don't want a really long build, as I already have two Benjamin Bulldogs that are long with moderators. I'm open to using griffin slugs as I've heard good things. I have JSB Exacts, Hades and FX Hybrids, but with the reduced power levels from my Bulldogs, I'll need more accuracy.

You might be close at 960 with a 600? But the 1/22 liner I tested was the best shooting 30 hybrids at 960, first and only 5 shot .5” group

i have shot @100, zero flyers at some speeds, very little at others, so like everything else, tune dependent!
Also, after the sumo, size has diminished returns, so ronin? Not worth it to me? Just my opinion.
if the big events did long range bench slug? I would definitely consider that barrel/slug combo, but spendy

I'm using the Ronin because I already own it and an Emperor, which I use on my Bulldogs. I will probably add the carbon fiber liner thingy to try and reduce barrel flex.

@estarkey7 I’m interested in what you can do with them shooting a Maverick. Looking forward to posts about your yote hunt.

I'm just waiting on Krale to refund my Argus purchase, and I'm buying the Maverick VP!

Was something wrong with your particular Argus or did you just not like it? Did it fail to meet your expectations performance wise?

I could not get the velocity to spec. When it arrived it was 690fps and with the hammer spring maxed out, it only got to 830fps with JSB Exact 44.75gr pellets, when it should do 915fps. With FX Hybrids it couldn't top 800fps. I sent this out on the 27th, and it still hasn't arrived yet, so I am going to call Krale right now.

@estarkey7 What? Wow! That sucks to hear. I was curious about the Argus 60 too. It looks solidly built, but tuneability is important. With 44.8 grain diabolos I like how they perform around 870. I haven’t taken them past 100 yards though. I hope that Krale can accommodate you. I’ve read good things posted by other members that have done business with them. If you go the Maverick route I’m interested in your impression. I’ve been looking into a Dreamline. I don’t know how similarly they perform, but I assume they can use similar FX barrels.

Yeah, this is very unfortunate. I have also been contacted privately by another Kalibr gun owner having a problem with low velocity. It seems very weird when we have had a ton of video reviews of the Kalibr Argus/Cricket II Tactical .30cal being stellar performers. I wonder if the reviewers got cherry picked guns? 🤔

I know I certainly am very disappointed. Having settled on what has been widely positioned as a high end gun, I never expected to have such problems. Although I rather not have a bottle front airgun, it looks like my money will be spent on the Maverick which has been proven to perform and then some.

I just picked up a Maverick Sniper .30 from a friend--that got frustrated with it. ;)

The very first thing I learned is that..... you don't need as much 2nd reg pressure as you would think.

I cranked it up to 150 bar and was only getting about 800fps with 48 grain pellets (the testing rounds)

I called FX to see what I was doing wrong, and they told me I had the reg set too high. I pulled it back down to 150/110 bar and HS out at 6mm. On #7, the FPS jumped up to 960!

So.....2nd reg at 110. Varmintknockers and Nielson slugs are running at 960-ish. Laser accurate with the standard X barrel.

So far, have taken two ground squirrels out at 150-160 yards. I'm still dialing it in. :)

That's fantastic info!

I'm still waiting on Krale to refund my Argus purchase, but it has been like 3 weeks and the gun is still stuck in customs or something. I think I'll just buy a Maverick VP soon and build it up over time to my liking.

I'm curious if you tried the 1:18 heavy liner?
