FX liner indexing = issue solved

A week or two ago there was a topic about indexing. I posted my groups and said I thought I had a little too much drift to the right as the distance increased. I had indexed my barrel when I first got the gun to see if group size changed at different points but after that, I put a mark on it at 12 o’clock and that was it. Al_Miller suggested that I might be able to index that drift out with indexing. Today was cold but absolutely no wind so I had to shoot something. I shot my Impact at 30, 50 and 100. The groups were tight but were indeed drifting to the right. Did a little indexing, added 10 more inch pounds to my shroud tension and the problem is solved. First pic is 3 shots after indexing that are now low left. Then 3 shots just a smidge high after adjustment.

Then I fired one at 50. Then I fired the last one at 100 at a spinner. Problem solved. I shot some other stuff at around 100yrds like wood chips laying on the snow and a couple deer turds. The gun is good. The thing I like about this hobby is just when you think you know almost everything, you find out you don’t. I think the more you know the worse it is. You wind up looking way too far into things when it’s really something simple.

So true. But it makes arriving at your goal/expectation that much better as well. I just sorted one of my guns today after a good year and 2 months 😑 couldn't be more pleased, though.

Nice shooting, and nice tune as well!

Vetmx,

Glad you got your Impact indexed and drift issues sorted out. It certainly looks like it's shooting great now!

I know a lot of airgunning is trying to limit/control/figure out all the variability that creeps into airguns over time. Whether it be from different conditions(temp, wind, altitude, etc...), different ammo, different tunes, dirty barrels, loosening/tightening up over time(screws, shrounds, moderators, etc...), and a lot of other causes. It is a testament to AGN(and airgun community as a whole) that there are so many great people who are willing to help/share/contribute to solve problems and grow the airgunning sport. The AGN forum has been a wealth knowledge and support for so many.
