fx indy pump maintenence

Seeing Steve's (AOA) FX Indy shroud removal video gives me hope that perhaps a similar video can be produced to demonstrate or even just talk about maintaining the on-board Indy pump, which needs extra love, according to many accounts (incl AOA itself).

In all seriousness, I think the Indy would (deservedly) enjoy much greater popularity if it were not for uncertainty surrounding its pump, and maintenance thereof.

Personally I am confused by the concern over the FX Indy or Independence pumps on forums. I received my .22 FX Independence on May 1st of last year and since that time there has been over 15,000 rounds put through it. Over half of those rounds were shot using the built in pump, the remaining using a FX floor pump or a tethered tank. The rifle has seen very little required maintenance none of which involved the pump. To date this is my go to rifle for overall shooting pleasure as it is EXTREMELY quiet and unbelievably accurate. Of the 8 air guns I own, the Independence is number 1.

It is a known fact that if one uses dry air to fill up Indy/Independence, the insides don't accumulate water. However, I neither own nor want to own a scuba setup. That's the whole reason I bought Indy.
So, after having put 500 pellets through the gun, I mustered up the courage to take the first stage apart (thanks to 17bullet and Scot Heath who shared some Independence pump drawings), and seeing the amount of water accumulated inside, I have no doubt that it has to be addressed on regular basis.
Also, AOA itself recommends taking the pump apart on very regular basis (had a phone chat Steve a few months back), hence my ask - make a video and explain how its done (much like what AOA did with Indy shroud removal).

Another way to look at it I this:
You acknowledge that there is a mass concern about this issue. Unfounded or not - the concern is there, and both the FX and AOA know about it. Then produce an 'official response' to address that concern (ideally in a form of a video instruction)

So, both lines of reasoning beg for the same end product (a video), which for us, the consumers would mean confidence in our purchase, and for FX/AOA ought to result in more sales of Indy/Independence rifles, since doubts about the pump and lack of information are holding 'moderately informed' people back.

If pumping my rifle enough times to fire thousands and thousands of pellets did not cause any maintenance issues with the rifle before I occasionally began using a drier air source, then I feel it is a non issue for my rifle. I have no doubts about my purchase. And yes I have spoken to AOA about this very issue, including my rifle and the number shots through it. They like me did not seem concerned at all.

I have to agree with Greg. There are many documented cases describing the issues of condensation with the Indy, especially in humid climates. I would also like to see more maintenance videos from AoA/FX and any other vendors/manufacturers willing to put the time & effort in instructional videos for the end user.

Hello. David here.
The faroe islands where i live is quite wet and rainy. Dont know if it affects the pumps. But the independence 25 is the most sold fx model here. 30-35 they give a clear picture of being more in need of service. Than the rest of the fx lineup. But it is also a uniqe gun. Dont know of any others with this super funtion. Some sort of service check seems better than everybody on their own.. :) i sold my independence 25 now. But it shot perfect! It slowly took more and more pumps to fill. But after service it was as new :)

I think there is a service kit.. or how its called for all the models available from fx i just bougt one fore my royale 400 with detailed drawings and all orings and different parts. The independence got new orings in the pump. I live on a small island. So not possible to service your gun here. I just tried an other independence 25 the pump does not work any more. So he just shoots with a bottle connected.. :) the service kit an a good look at the instruction video seems as a good idea. :)

But please remember Vice-Grips are the incorrect tool for anything.

John

Thank you, John

I did not realize the Bobcat & Indy/Independence were so similar

In a bit of a curfuffle over the vice grips.

I have complete sets of them in SAE & Metric

What to do?,

What to do?
