FX Impact X Regulator Rebuild

Put this in another thread, but seems like we see this question on the board a lot, so I made links directly to the rebuild.

FWIW - I read about having to rebuild your regulator every 5-15k shots a few weeks ago. I have run about 12k through my impact X and figured I would wait until it was symptomatic. Turns out that was this weekend. The first shot through was super slow - 600 fps - then it would climb immediately back up to 920. I rebuilt the regulator as Ernest prescribes in his Masterclass videos using O-Rings found through this forum.

Whole Process took about an hour. Really pretty simple. While I was at it, I replaced the barrel orings, both inside and out. Put it back on the Chrony and dialed it back in after tightening the hammer spring tensioner. Adjusted the power wheel to get close to the speed I wanted, then dialed the valve adjuster down from 4 until the speed dropped to where I wanted it. Hope this helps.

I just finished rebuilding my regulator as well. Those videos are lifesavers! I haven't finished adjusting yet, but shot it for the first time post rebuild, and after replacing valve rod and valve seat, other O-rings, etc. So far, it's throwing the JSB Kings at about 920fps. I'll be tuning that down a bit, but so far everything works.

Sadly, the bulk of my time was spent with the large o-ring in the body of the gun. That took me almost an hour. the rest of the rebuild was easy compared to the one o-ring.

That whole series FX put out is fantastic!

No kidding - 40 min of that hour I spent was on that O-Ring. Most of which modifying tools I had to make it work. Next time should be faster. *should*

It will be faster. I did that ring three times thinking I'd fouled it up. Got faster each time and the modified tools really helped. I did buy a set of plastic cleaning picks, and modified one so it had a pretty blunt tip to push the ring into the groove. I have some other tool ideas in mind, but hope it'll be a very long time before I do that exercise again.

Congratulations on completing the technically most difficult maintenance item on the Impact. Hope your gun shoots better than ever! Mine does.
