FX Impact X MKII Leaking from Dealer

I recently purchased a FX Impact X MKII 25 Cal that I received last Friday. I took a couple shots with it just to check it out, and I came home on Sunday with it totally void of any air. I tried to fill it back up, but the air started to leak out faster than I could put it in the bottle. The leak is in front of the Power Plenum where it connects into the receiver, and after wasting a day of vacation that I planned to play with my brand new $2000 gun, I finally got a FX rep to call me after my dealer begged him too. They are sending me two B22 O-Rings, but I was hoping someone here could let me know if that will fix it. Here is a picture of the area that it is leaking:

Its probably the orings on the narrow end of plenum. You're sure its not leaking under the power wheel area?

Yeah b22 would be that area. You'll have to take the hammer stop on the end of the valve rod (under valve adjuster) off then can slide the plenum straight back and off. Might get lucky and can flip them over, put silicone grease on and get lucky.

So Glem you know about the flip them o-rings over and reuse them again trick too huh? I use Alphabet org Auto Trans Quick Fix Stop Leak to swell them up for a day first then rinse clean and flip the damaged side around and reinstall.

I am sorry this happens and I honestly feel that until we pull together as a community and name the names of the dealers that do not check there inventory before letting it go out for sale to the customers it will always be an issue. Even though I feel it is a small number of occurrences considering the shear volume of sales I still feel when we pull together and call them out on the lack of consideration for the consumer it will always be.

Imagine hunting for a new pcp and there was a list of dealers where you could plainly see who ships without checking their merchandise and who cares enough about there loyal patrons to do an air check for leaks so to avoid this situation. dealer (a) has shipped 13 flawed products in 6 months and dealer (c) has only 2 occurrences and Dealer (b) has none because they caught them before hand and fixed it. Who would we all buy from even if it took 2 days more to receive.

I am very sure if you notify fx that they will take care of you as they always do and are very well on there way to some of (if not ) the best customer service out there currently available to us all. They are very active on the forums and have improved to a point that they are changing the game for all the rest.

The Dealers that take our money also have a responsibility to their customers to be an active part in another line of defense to ensure quality to there patrons and customers or let them answer for it instead of blaming others. This is how they make there living and that comes with some common responsibilities on there part as well.

Just my honest opinion as I see this type of thing on here and no one holds the dealer responsible for anything any more. They are just playing the blame game and taking our hard earned money.

FX will and does take care of things, it is just the inconvenience is very annoying and whomps in my opinion.

Sorry to be so long winded but In My Honest Opinion The dealer should Either accept a return immediately or rectify this for you at no cost to you what so ever . It does and will continue to happen until they are publicly exposed for it. I personally do not use most of the really big box places any at all anymore as I have found others that offer superior customer satisfaction and I do not mind a small wait time for that kind of service. Their is one big name dealer that has a good record for taking care of their customers out of all the others from my personal experience and that is all.

Fair enough, Scott. You first. Now who is that "dealer that has a good record for taking care of their customers..."

I had 3 Brand New FX rifles show up 'with issues'.
1 Impact, I was sent the old version in the new case..
Then when I returned it and was send the correct version that I ordered..
1 Impact that leaked down to zero psi - either out of the gauges or tank/regulator
And..
1 Dream Tac Compact that I received with 0psi and would leak down in no time..
Either through the tank connection, or gauges..

The 2 Impacts were sent from one reputable dealer..
The 1 Dream Tac Compact from another reputable dealer.

**This is an issue with the Manufacturer [FX]
**This is a secondary issue with the Dealers.

Product Testing & Quality Control Are A Must!
With such high price-tags, this is unacceptable..

Not only have I been in sales and customer support for the better part of 20+ years,
I've also owned/operated my own businesses for 14+ years..

This sort of thing would Never fly. It should Never be up to the customer to have to
diagnose and/or fix issues - especially 'known issues' with a brand new item..

It's a good thing that everyone is usually pretty good at getting the issues resolved,
and it's great to have people that are in the know and ready/willing to lend a hand!

It's still not 'right' though..

Some of us have to work way too hard for our money and give up a lot of other things
when it comes to higher cost purchases.. When WE'RE the ones who get the duds,
and experience all the issues, it's enough to make my blood boil.

** BTW, I'm STILL playing e-mail / PM / Phone tag trying to get 'issues' worked out.

Best of luck to everyone else who's in the same unfortunate situation! [We need it]

Travis at Airgun Source in Canada here is great, i think Wes at airgunarcherygun.ca is a dealer now too and bends over backwards for customers.

Yes all dealers would be wise to check each unit before it is shipped, but rush orders and very busy single handed dealers can be overwhelmed plus some customers don't want their new toy touched by anyone but them.

It's the manufacturer that needs to double-check everything and follow with QC checks to not send out faulty crap it really is inexcusable for top shelf companies to release so many faulty units , and I don't mean the occasional one that slip's by due to a defect.

The dealers should be confident in their product without the need for extra work and having to make sure.

And when a customer does receive a faulty unit the dealer should have the support from the manufacturer to refund or replace immediately.

Take for example the warranty from Vortex scopes... Exemplary all manufacturer's should follow suit!!!

Most warranties aren't worth the paper their written on now days.

I think it's already an accepted norm for FX so it's no longer such a big deal. Sure FX is there to take care of their loyal customers and thats why a lot of customers buy multiple Impacts. Always have at least one to shoot if and when one is down. I have 4 and await my 5th Impact and 2 leak. Just buy a spare just in case. That's what I do especially if I worry about reliability and still like the gun and already knowing about potential problems by reading the forums too just coming in prepared that's all. This goes for other brands of guns as well. Not only FX. Just the RAWs I haven't felt the need to buy spares in the same calibers like the Impact because I already knew their ancestor the Theoben Rapids were trouble free. FX will always be behind in production because of all of the sponsored You Tube 200+ yard shooters that appear to never miss on video with their Impacts. People all over the world willing to buy the Impact no matter what. Even me.

I'll never forget the year 1999:

I graduated from high school, according to ancient civilizations - it was the end of the wold. [Nooo, just the calendar cycle]
computer gurus all spazzed out about Y2K and all the computers going down.. I was definitely partying like it was 1999,
annnd.. That was the first / initial release of the FX Impact! Yeeeaaah Buddy!

Between 'life', health issues, money issues, etc. I had to put off getting one until' This Year!
I've wanted one for all these years, and with each year, they've improved and come a long way for sure.

I was soooo stoked when I was finally able to pull the trigger on ordering one..
I was hoping I'd be just as stoked when I got to physically pull the trigger on one..

I think that's what kicked me in the balls more than anything..

25+ years of shooting, and next to zero issues with any of my guns [rifles / pistols - air and powder]
so when issues arose before I even got to pull the trigger, it was a serious mental set back..
And as crazy as I am, shooting is one of the only things I have that helps put me in a happy-place..

Ahhh...

I still absolutely love the gun. I actually wanted to snag the compact, but, the wait was too long..
I got the 600mm for now, hoping to convert it as soon as possible.. The wait is on again..

I was going to put in an order for the Impact Compact also,
but, after the issues w/ the one I have now, and the issues w/ the Dream Tac Compact..
Converting for a few hundred bucks seems like a better choice than dropping another few grand,
and knowing my bad-luck, ending up with a 3rd headache.

There's no doubt.. if that happened, I'd end up either on the news, in jail, or in a padded room. 🤪🤣

FX-USA [Scott] has been a tremendous help. As mentioned, FX stands behind things 100%.
They know their products inside and out, so, tech assistance and customer support are top notch.

*Almost* All of the initial issues have been fixed, with the exception of a gremlin or 2 still in hiding,
but I'm hoping to get them spotted and nix'd sooner than later. I hope..

These are most definitely over engineered rifles, and that is both a pro and a con..
One of the biggest cons is.. No matter how amazingly designed and build these things are,
it's almost always 'the weakest link' that ends up being an issue..
Ex: O-rings, Seals, etc. [Consumable parts as I like to call em]
When used excessively - like in these - Off hand, I think there's like 40 o-rings? 😀
It's harder to do trouble shooting / process of elimination - compared to other less complicated guns..

Frustrating as all hell when they don't work..
But Absolutely Amazing when they work properly..

I wanted to thank you all for your support and help with this issue. It was one of the most frustrating things that I have had to deal with to say the least. I had the gun that I spent over $2000 apart multiple times and spending countless hours to fix the leak that I finally resolved last night. I had spoken with multiple people at FX and the dealer to located the problem that I ended up figuring out myself after reviewing multiple posts and YouTube videos, which was the O-Rings that go inside the front of the Power Plenum and seal the valverod in the back of the receiver. They are circled in the attached picture, but it is now holding air and my 25 Caliber JSB Diablo Pellets are flying out of the barrel at over 900 FPS. If nothing else, the experience really helped me to understand the inner workings of a PCP air rifle.

It is entirely possible an oring fails on transit. I won't speculate on likelyhood or percents, but it is non-zero.

From what you said, the dealer worked a bit harder to ensure FX support was available, and despite whiffing it on this one, they do generally do good in my personal experience.

I'm just happy that, at the end, you got your gun shooting! Enjoy!
