New FX Impact Trigger Problem

Im having an issue with the gun cocking. My first stage is practically non-existent. This is my used gun I bought off of the classifieds section.

Back ground: cocked gun sideways at a 45 degree angle. Gun refused to fire and trigger was stuck. I adjusted around the screws for the trigger adjustment(got it to go off) and now cannot get the gun shooting again. The cocking just keeps slipping. When i adjust the screws to get it cocking again the first stage is gone, and the second stage is too light. I have to use a allen key to push the piece that holds the hammer up above the sear to bring back the second stage.

Here is a short video of someone with the same problem:

You are certainly not the first person who tried to adjust the trigger on an Impact and lost the first stage, not by a long shot! I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you can get the second stage from being too light. Mine did the same thing but I just got a coke and settled down, figured that this was gonna take awhile, took my shoes off and prepared to set awhile. About 45 minutes later after playing around and playing around and playing around with it, I got it close enough to where I wanted it and was satisfied with that. Still don't have a first stage but the second is crisp and breaks at about 8 ounces. If you absolutely HAVE to have that first stage on it, you might end up sending it back to the retailer, but even if it is still under warranty, AoA will charge you for adjusting the trigger ... it's not considered warranty work. Think I read that somewhere in the owners manuel.

"jking"Here's a Youtube by Ernest on the Impact trigger. Hope it might be of some help.

I've messed with the trigger adjustment using the above video for 1 1/2 hours. I found it helpful when finding it myself but it lacks some details. There must be some sort of variable I'm missing or I must not be reassembling the cocking mechanism properly. Anyways I'll send it in for Ernest to look at. I feel like it's a new problem because that YouTube video I posted was uploaded about last month,

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the first stage is practically non-existent. If there is no first stage travel, the adjustment screw in front can be backed out to create travel. If it is not returning, then the second stage pull weight probably needs to be set higher (clockwise on rear screw). You mentioned the cocking keeps slipping, and the second stage let off is too light, both of which tend to indicate more pressure is needed on the second stage screw, clockwise. I'm not a big fan of these triggers, but they can actually work pretty well.

No point in adjusting trigger without knowing if cocking pin is bent and look like you have the smaller cocking pin that bend easily, Check that 1st. Hammer isn’t going back enough to push upper shear up and your pushing upper shear with an Allen. with bent cocking pin it limits how far the hammer travel back —> remember its the hammer that flip the upper shear to catch the hammer.
