FX Impact: The Wait and Anticipation

Would it be too much to ask Tom, Michael, or Ted to do a video with the shroud extended and then retracted? A view of the shooter and the rifle and simultaneously showing the target? I've seen Michael's video of him taking the barrel out and put back in. I'm not convinced enough. Do 5 shots extended, then 5 shots retracted. An angle where you can see the shooter and the target in the foreground. Another view is through the scope.

"MadScientist"Scott, as a fellow engineer, I agree with everything you have said. I am waiting a little until FX works out some of the bugs, like others have said. One of the things that I see happening with the FX Impact is the potential for a lot of aftermarket customization / tuning. It seems like a "modular gun", meaning many systems could be swapped out or modified by tuners. One of my first predictions is somebody will come out with a "receiver" that will accept a threaded barrel instead of the side pin. Seems to me like it would be a lot more stable / repeatable and would be nearly as easy to swap barrels (for those who want to). It looks to me like nothing else would need to change to make this type of barrel system on this gun. It would seem easy enough to order a barrel with whatever length, caliber and moderator system you wanted.
I could also guess optional equipment like different adjustable stock piece and an add-on adjustable cheek rest could be nice additions.
Bottom line: I see a lot of potential to make this gun platform into some cool, customized systems. Does anybody else see this?

I see it!!! I like .177 for my needs, but if I can easily make it into a .30 cal with an easy barrel and probe change then I'm in!! Just need to see that it works.

My experience with carbon fiber and Kevlar is that it absorbs more noise than steel, but have not compared to Aluminum. I suspect it would also be quieter, maybe more so. It could save some weight.....a one pound increase on a 7 pound gun is a 14% increase, and that at the forward end of the gun where you feel it the most. The composite materials would probably be more difficult to work; gluing instead of threading ends and may not be as uniform in wall thickness or roundness and maybe more expensive.
As for aftermarket mods for the Impact, I would like to see weight saving parts, not weight adding ones. How about a Titanium air transfer tube. I would also like to see a Stainless power adjusting screw/cam for better wear and a better finish on the tip of the barrel positioning/holding set screw that exactly matches the shape and size of the seat in the barrel. A stainless end piece on the barrel to replace the brass one would be better too, or better yet, no separate end piece at all....machine the barrel itself with the required detail, so it is all one piece. I have a feeling that FX will eventually start doing that anyway, since I see no big advantage in using the separate brass end, and the brass will wear and be damaged more easily.

"SethAZ"There isn't any clipping that can be seen on the Impact telescoping LDC. I have cleaned the barrel and cleaned the LDC (twice so far) but left the majority of the silicon grease intact in the sliding mechanism until I can find out what type of grease is being used. My Marauder LDC from Neil Claque changes the POI if I screw it on the barrel too tight. I put a line (small scratch) on the barrel and on the LDC so that it lines up the same each time I put the LDC back on.
No clipping but is the POI still good? I mean you shoot 5 shots retracted and then 5 shots extended, the POI is still dead on?
I have the impact and with my .22 i do get a POI shift with it extended but not tried this with my .30 as it's too loud with it retracted

I have removed the shroud and use a Huggett now with the .22

Again I see no reason why someone mentions my LDC for a Marauder on this topic about impacts, the Marauders have a shroud and the LDC is not directly attached to the barrel so you can not directly compare how my product works on a shroud mounted on rubber o-rings to another product that mounts directly to a barrel! Please guys, stick to the topic and if you have an issue with one of my products then contact me and in a case like the Marauder I can explain to you why they are a problem, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a product mounted on a shroud that is able to move independently from the barrel can cause clipping problems. Seth it would pay you to learn what the parts of the guns are, the barrel is inside the shroud on the Marauders, the LDC does not even touch the barrel! Neil.

Don't hold your breath, lol! :) I have way too many variables to overcome to make that video. Primarily, I have the weather to deal with. When I left for vacation, about a week ago, it was -10ºf. I think it warmed all the way up to around +10º that day. Add to that the wind. It blows around 15mph everyday here and I can't hide from it. On the really windy days, it blows hard enough to blow 2x6 boards over my fence and into the neighbors yard. Seriously! I just grabbed two of them back yesterday. I've actually contemplated making my own shooting "tunnel" so that I could hide form the wind and still be able to effectively test my rifles. But, I'm trying to get my house ready to sell so, building something like that isn't practical. I can't wait until the weather breaks! I have a number of video ideas that I want to try. I'll add this one to the mix but, like I said, don't hold your breath for it to come form me anytime in the near future.

I'd like to add a comment on poi shift with/without shroud but I cannot. I have shot thousands of rounds over the chrony tuning and adjusting. I have only shot down range one time. I know it's hard to believe but that's the reality of where I'm at. Only one time, everything was right and I had an opportunity to shoot in no wind with warm enough temps. I had to quickly assemble the rifle (which was broken down due to experimenting with it) set up and get shooting. I shot the best group I have ever shot at 150 yards (.25 JSB heavies) I wanted to continue shooting but, low and behold, here comes the wind again.
Good luck to you guys that are waiting! I hope the wait is over soon. :)
Happy Shooting!
Tom

Maybe in the near future I can get an Impact with all the calibers. But for now, I backed out of the FX Impact line and ordered a Cricket in 22cal instead. It will be at my door step on 02/18/16. No regrets. With the money refunded ($1899)+$200, this is what I ended up buying:

22 Magazine $30x2= $60.00
Hawke Sidewinder Tac 30 6.5-20x42 = $439.99
Pellet Sampler .22 - Round $35.00
Cricket Bullpup .22 Wood Stock $1559.00
Subtotal:$2093 Shipping cost:$0.00

Love my Cricket, am sure you will as much.

OK, I can't stand the wait! I just plunked down a deposit to order a .25 cal black Impact. So much for "waiting until they worked the bugs out". Looks like I'll be working the bugs out along with them, assuming deliveries catch up with back orders in the reasonable future.

@Parrots (Matt), have you done any accuracy comparisons between those barrels (FX & LW)?

I got my impact prob around the first of January. I've been a long time Airgun hunter since prob late 80's starting with an RWS model 45. Now that I'm older and make a little more money I have the FX Boss, wildcat and Daystate Wolverine & now the Impact. All in .30 cal.
The Boss in .30 is hands down the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. It gives complete confidence. Just get crosshairs on target and you know it will connect. I've been shooting the impact as much as possible and with moderator in or out I've not seen any difference in the point of impact. I figured on some flaws being first production year but have found none yet. Just another great gun from FX.
I'd say if I get a good scope like the Hawks I have on my other PCP guns it will be just as good as any of the others and because of the weight and compact design it will be my go to gun if I can keep my son from getting to it first !

Would really like to know your thoughts on the Impact vs the boss in .30cal. I have a wildcat in .25 cal and looking to add a .30 cal to the mix. Any help will be much appreciated.
