As I was sighting in my Impact for a racoon hunt a few days ago the screw that holds the probe in place worked itself free. The bang near my ear was deafening and the probe came out with some force. I found the probe about 5 feet from the bench. How it came out from the protective cage I have no idea(75 fpe probably). Both the barrel and probe have never been removed since the Impact arrived but in fairness I never checked that screw after installing the barrel day one.

Posting so this hopefully doesn't happen to anyone else. Inspect your Impact every once in awhile.

In order to change probes I completely remove the screw that holds it in place. If the screw is only partially out then it cannot be cocked because it rubs on the frame. I'm not saying it's impossible, it just hasn't happened to me. Mine has never even loosened by itself.

Two suggestions for all you Impact owners:

1. Check the screw to make sure its nice & tight.
2. If you never plan on changing barrels or probes, add a drop of lock-tite to the screw.

Shoot safe my friends.

Oddly enough, I caught this before it could have happened to me. I was doing my completed tin run though of the gun and just happened to put an Allen key on the set screw. Sure enough it was loose. I would have been in the same boat if I hadn't checked it. I had not checked that bolt since new and have roughly 5000 rounds through my .25. My Impact has been problem free except the bottle gauge leaked. Simple fix. Glad you weren't hurt @Sam63
