Fx impact or ataman??

Ok guys, heres a decision i just cant seem to make on my own. As soon as i have my mind made up, i second guess myself. The fx impact has been on my "want list" ever since i seen one. However ive been seeing a ton of bad reviews on it. I would hate to spend 2 grand on a rifle and be disappointed in what i got. Now on the other hand i seen that Airgun Depot has the ataman m2r carbine type 1 which is a really nice looking rifle IMO. I dont see too many reviews on the ataman as i do with the impact. So basically my options are to buy a well known rifle with not so many good reviews but a lot of potential, or take a shot in the dark and go with the ataman and save myself $500 and possibly a headache.
Btw the .25 is definitely my caliber of choice;)

I feel your pain. I'm one who would also like to try an FX Impact. But I can't afford what it takes to get one, and then spend hundreds more to fix it. It troubles me that I don't hear new owners lauding FX for improving current production runs either. Equally unnerving is the apparent cautionary silence of new FX Crown owners. Twice bitten, thrice shy?

Out of the most recent FX productions, it appears that the FX Wildcat is turning out to be the least troublesome and has the highest level of customer satisfaction. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon from FX. But I think I'll be satisfied with what I have for now. Don't know much about the Ataman M2R.

It's starting to look to me like FX made the same blunder with the Impact that ATN made with their digital night vision scope, the ATN X-Sight; rushing it to market before it was ready and leaving their customers with costly frustrations and an equally bad taste in their mouths. I sure hope that's not the case with the FX Crown too.

I'm beginning to think that the most honest and objective review of an airgun will come from those who have owned the gun for a good long while and then sold it. Except for the most outraged owners, most current owners seem to maintain the hype until AFTER they sell theirs. Only then does the ugly truth come out. Ugly, or otherwise, theirs is likely to be the most objective review of all.

Keep in mind what you just said. The Impact has been on your "want list". If you don't scratch that itch you will always wonder. Nice thing about the FX line is they tend to fix the issues. By now you should be getting a pretty trouble free gun. If you do have a problem? Send it back, get it repaired and enjoy your most wanted gun. I waited two years to get my dream FX gun and I am glad I got it.

I would be completely new to fx as well as ataman if i would get either or, being ive only owned edguns. However i dont mind trying out new brands but i am cautious when it comes to these high end rifles. Im not so sure what to think of the fx impact because as i mentioned, there are some good reviews.
I do agree that fx may have rushed these rifles being that so many people have sent it back for repairs. But then again you have people like Ted and Matt who shoot lights out at 50-100 yards and never seem to have problems with anything at all. its almost as if i would have a 50/50 chance with an impact.

Absolutely love the Fx Impact since I saw it, but in the same boat as you. So I compromised and ordered or should I say preordered a Crown. But I have my eye on and am currently saving for an Ataman, not sure which model but definitely a .25. They are reported to be very well engineered and produced guns. BWalton and several others show videos on the Atamans.

As of now im leaning more towards the ataman. If i do end up with the ataman i will be sure to post pics and info on it since i dont see any about carbine type 1. Im sure many others have been waiting to see a good in depth review on one as i have :)

Hey xtandem, don't forger about the taipan veteran, I got another clip for mine today from Tony at talon tunes, he has them in stock. FWIW before I got my FX W/cat I read about issues with them as well, mine leaked air overnight when I first got it and the feeling was not good, I fixed it without returning it. Good luck whatever you choice is, if you have issues, like other members have said, send it back.

I had a Ataman AP16 and I would not describe it as well produced. I might be picky and spoilt, but the AP16 did not leave a good impression on me, mediocre finish and workmanship IMHO. That being said it were by no means any worse than the only FX i have ever owned (Revolution) and it shot OK.
