FX Impact noise and other stuff...

I've been bitten by the FX Impact X. (I'm not sure there is an antidote).

#1: I'm thinking of getting my first PCP. For those that have knowledge of Impacts: if you dial down the power, does that make it more quiet? (I'm expecting a yes here!)

#2: Another Impact question: I see that the air supply is in front of the trigger, where is the valve that "dumps" the plenum storage if I'm even using that term/situation correctly? Is there a long tube from the tank to the pellet probe that fills with HPA? Or is it stored more near the magazine and the trigger connects/releases it "back there"?

#3: Again .22 cal: Thinking a DonnyFL shroud and SUMO: Good setup? Quiet? Does the shroud have a centering mechanism to insure a clean exit of the pellet?

#4: Other than the "power selected dial" will I need to do a lot of tinkering to get good accuracy?

#5 For those that have a .22 version: I'm planning on using JSB's (in all my springers they are the best). I've got a bunch of 15.89's and would next try some Heavy 18.23's.

#6: This stuff is expensive. I'm already thinking a AV compressor and a 74' CF tank!!!

TIA, Randy

1: As you lower the power the noise lowers as well.

2: The Air is transported through the body of the gun and through the bottom tube to the magazine area.

3: I'm running the DonnyFL Shogun on my .22 the front opening is a .25 cal. works very well!

4: Most pellets will shoot very well with the gun set approximately 900 fps. Because of the "X" liner it isn't as picky about FPS as the original smooth twist barrels.

5:I mostly shoot 18.1 gr JSB's in mine and they shoot extremely well!

6: I have a Yong Hend 110v chinese compressor and a 30 min SCBA tank that works very well. (But for my next round if the Yong Heng should crap out? I'm getting the Omega compressor and a 100 Omega air tank.)

Buy the best right off the bat and you'll save money in the long run!

Good Luck!

Same as above only mine is a .25 shooting about 906. Having your own air supply and your own compressor will increase the pleasure of shooting that Impact 10 fold. That's not the place to cut corners. Donny recommended the KOI moderator for my Impact and Wildcat. Adjust nothing until you really understand what you are doing. The power wheel is fine but change adjustments after it's fired before cocking for the next shot. It's a great rifle and highly adjustable IF you are knowledgeable about the Impact. There are many on here who have commented about sending their rifle back for a 'tune' as they adjusted and couldn't get back what they had.

Are you using the 25.4 gr. pellets?

I now use 34 gr. JSB pellets at 850-870 fps -- 56 fpe. Accuracy = good, not excellent at 55 yards. 2 weeks ago I put on a great show -- for my 10 year old cousin taking out unopened 20 oz. Mountain Dew bottles at 112 yards (nary a miss on a 6 pack) with my FX Impact X .25 cal (700mm barrel).

This rifle is very good for hunting out to and beyond 100 yards.

I have both .25 and .30 barrels moderated with a Hugget. Very very quiet no matter what. I’ve had it for a year now and have had 4 problems.

1) Devloped a bad air leak wher the air was blowing out of the bottom of the breach assembly. Pellet would not even exit the barrel. This happened before the fist tin of pellets was shot. This was fixed under warranty.

2) I bought 2 .25 cal magazines and neither will index when full with JSB heavies. Sent them back to AOA and they did not fix or replace them even though I was within the warranty period. Switched to the Side Shot high capacity mags. Far superior product than the stock FX mags.

3) Power loss. Worn breach orings. Apparently this is kept secret as a maintenance item by FX. Had to search the internet to figure out the problem and to find the proper orings. Bought a big supply for both calibers.

4) Power loss again!! Caused by loose hammer spring adjuster screw. Again another maintenance secret that should be in the manual. Luckily it’s a common problem and instructions/video is available on line but not from FX though.

Other than this, it’s a quiet, accurate and bet powerful airgun but it can get frustrating trying to figure ot out when something is not working right.

Good luck

The Impact is a great gun and you’ll love it! I got mine when they first came out and still enjoy shooting it. Started in ,22 then moved to .25 and this week got the 700mm .30cal barrel.

Your question 2

The unregulated air makes its way to the regulator in behind the trigger There is passage through the trigger block to get there It passes through the regulator into the tube below the barrel That is the plenum.

There is a long rod that goes all the way from the valve adjuster at the front to the valve seat in the block in front of the magazine. It passes right through the plenum tube.

The hammer is just above/in front of the trigger and slides on this same rod. When you cock the gun it is pulled back. When you fire the gun it flys forward and strikes the end stop of the rod pulling it forward and opening the valve at the other end

You have 3 ways to adjust your air flow

1 The regulated air pressure

2 Hammer spring tension (power wheel)

3 Valve adjuster This is the one that is unique to the Impact This can restrict how far the valve rod can travel forward The more you screw it in the less the valve will open

If you take some time to understand how it works tuning and troubleshooting will become much easier

Ernest Rowe’s (FX Usa technician Master tuner)videos on YouTube are a fantastic source of information on the gun.

Good luck!
