FX Impact initial thoughts

I got my .25 FX Impact on Wed and took it out of its case and heard something rattling around inside. Got scared it was already broken and then I remembered reading about the hammer being free floating or something like that. I then looked underneath at the foster fill port and it's recessed. Still hard to remove my current female foster but FX included a new one that should work better once I install it on my tank. The finish is silver and looks great. The barrel was snug when sliding it in but went in easily.

Scope installation and bipod installation- I installed a Hawke Frontier with no limit mounts. Before installing the scope I tried to level the top of the gun. I put a level on the Picatinny rail and top of the scope mounts. They weren't level with each other so I leveled the rail with the top of the scope and used a vertical plumb line as reference. Even though the mounts weren't level with the rail, I do like the no limit mounts. They were very easy to get a rough vertical zero. The bipod I installed was an Atlas with a quick release lever. Everything installed perfectly and the quick release works fine.

Magazines- They work but the probe catches the edge of the magazine's internals occasionally. The 16 shot count is awesome. The only downside is I'm blowing through lead. You fire off a ton of shots vs a single shot gun like my Condor.

Retractable shroud- For an empty tube it works pretty darn good. The gun is pretty quiet even when retracted. Much quieter than my .25 Condor and FX Boss. I would feel very comfortable shooting in the backyard. I actually thought the gun was broken after my first shot because it was so quiet vs my other guns.

Accuracy- I zeroed at 40 yards with JSB Heavys MK2. It's ok at 40 but accuracy drops off beyond currently. I don't know if it needs some break in time and a tune up. I haven't chronographed it yet either. So far the accuracy isn't close to FX Boss but the Impact is still new to me and I haven't tinkered with the power settings and different pellets.

Overall- The Impact feels well built for the most part and I'm glad to see previous issues were addressed. I still need to tinker with it as I'm not happy with the current accuracy out of the box compared to the Boss. However, the fun level is way higher with the Impact and when the accuracy issue gets fixed I'll be flying through tins of pellets.

Questions for other .25 Impact owners:
1. What pellets work good for you and at what velocity?
2. Did you need to break your gun in?
3. What is your regulator set to?

When I leveled my scope, I removed the cheek rest and put the level on the flat top of the frame.
Make sure you center your Atlas on that short picatinny. If it's too far forward, it might gouge your CF bottle.
PA has the best deal on lead. Buy what you think you need and then add 25-50% more. lol! :)
Yes, with a new regulated rifle, the regulator sometimes needs some time to settle in. Also, sometimes the barrels need to be "leaded." Usually takes ~50 shots or so. Use that chrony! :) I find my Impact shoots the most consistent at power level 4. Use the power wheel to find your speed and then use the return level dial to make it efficient.
START A JOURNAL! I posted my learning curves here along with some tips.
1) JSB's all the way! the 25gr .25 cal work well. The heavies might give you a lower standard deviation and buck the wind better. Try to hit that 880-900fps mark. It should yield the best results.
2) No, but mine shares a unique history with only 2 others. I would enjoy shooting it for a while and let it break in. After a while, move over to the chrony, Then, go back to the range.
3) Factory. I wouldn't recommend moving it until you have exhausted the abilities of the other adjustments. FYI, Adjusting the reg voids your warranty. So, leave that until last. All the messing around with my reg ultimately led me right back to the factory settings.
Cheers!

You should try some other pellets before doing anything to the gun. Maybe start with some of the lighter JSBs. Most guns work better with some pellets than others. You might be able to rule out some of your issues straight away.

I can tell you that JSB heavies don't usually feel as smooth with the probe as other other pellets in my guns. They can be a tight fit that crunches a little when being pushed into the breach. Are you sure the probe is catching the internals vs what I just described?

You might find a lighter pellet solves both issues.

I installed a level on my scope and accuracy is there now. I shoot my Impact at MAX and get 820-830 fps with pretty tight groups from 40, 50, and 60 yards so far.

I have a Joe B tank and to install the FX Foster with male end. I had to order a 1/8 bspp x 1/8 npt female adaptor. Still waiting on it and will comment later.

Also, no leaks or persisting problems. I shot through 3 x350 pellet tins so far. Happy FX Impact owner!

Have had my Impact for about a week now. What a FUN gun. Still learning the different settings so no real data. Hottest for the 33.95 grain JSB so far is lower 800's. Accuracy has been amazing so far. It seems to like the 33 grain over the 25 grain but have not spent much time with the 25's yet. When I first got it I shot with the shroud extended and retracted. It shot two distinct 1/2 inch groups @ 50 yards that were side by side and touching in the center. I thought the shroud was causing a POI change, but I have not been able to repeat that. Still working on adjusting the trigger to my liking, but it is getting closer. Been looking at different pistol grips. Would like to find a rubber texture fatter grip to try. Also plan on putting a leather sleeve over the carbon bottle. Happy with the Impact. Well worth the wait.

sharroff7duece,

If you don't use the tilting of the FX rings and have the rings set to flat, can you get your scope to sight in with the POI being in the crosshairs at say 20 yards?

Sharroff,

At 25m (if that helps) I can confirm setting Hawke SW on medium Hawke Mounts, and then High Sportsmatch mounts and even higher Eagle Vision Infinity mounts. Not done a full 360 yet on the turrets with either.

Maybe you got an out of spec machined main plate &/or the rail.

7deuceThe Impact isn't as accurate as my Boss but as Kitplanenut says it's fun to shoot. It's such a cool gun and with the extra capacity vs old fx mags you shoot way more lead. Fun factor is 10/10.

Totally agree. It has that appeal making one want to pick it up and empty a few mags. And willingly pull some hair during the shots on "where did that and that flyer come from". Bags of fun nonetheless.

I think its popularity has more to do with its infinite adjustability and AR-15 look it has going for it that has everyone buying it. That plus FX's history of that smooth twist barrel able to hold its own in the hands of someone willing to put in the time and effort to know their gun. The FLEX and WARP saw it in the impact and they both have the same looking (a little rougher and unpolished) going for it, and the same if not better accuracy (yet that is always been subjective).

So did some tinkering. My regulator was at 125 and I adjusted it to about 140. I also adjusted the valve to just over 2 long and 2 short lines. It was sent to me with 2 long and 1 short line. I got my .25 cal 25 grain JSB's over 900 fps from 850-860fps. Still in the low 800's with the heavys. Small pet peeve- how come my Airforce Condor came with all the hex keys I need to adjust it and my FX Impact which costs 3x more I have to go to Home Depot for metric hex keys. C'mon throw in the $1.00 worth of hex keys.

I also received my 1/8 Bspp x 1/8 npt double female adaptor today and attached the FX Foster fitting. It's so much easier to remove than a standard Foster quick release. It has some deep grooves in it that grip real easy and the spring is also nice and soft. A definite upgrade. A++ on that fix.
