FX Impact Groups and Accuracy

My Impact works just fine. No issues.

Would like this thread to remain close to the title. Functional issues not related to accuracy have been covered extensively elsewhere, hoping to boil results down to capability of owner's barrel with any or all pellets tried in an otherwise operational FX Impact.

Many owners post long range groups that are truly amazing.
I would like to find out if they are the exception rather than the rule.
I'll kick this off by posting my "ho-hum" results;

Best mine can do (so far) with JSB Heavies (only pellet I've tried to date) is as follows;
  • 25 yards, .25 cal JSB Heavies, benched in favorable conditions
  • 5 groups
  • 57 shots total,
  • Honest .325 CTC average
The results posted above were above average for my FX Impact, and likely repeatable with similar settings and identical pellets. I fully realize ongoing diligence may likely improve my groups.

Who else has results they might post? Better, worse, stellar or abysmal... inquiring minds want to know.

"HavocX"great thread idea.
What settings is your Impact set at? Maybe add this info and anyone else can as well.

Since airguns vary greatly, and individual nuances abound, I'm not sure my settings would benefit anyone, but will at the risk of confusing both myself and the readers share my meager attempts at dialing it in,

My settings are suspect, since the stock gauges give indications of being off by a good bit as others have noted, but I'll share what they "say".

Discalaimers...
  • When my bottle gauge reads 150, my reg gauge reads 130
  • When my Hill pump reads 230, the bottle gauge reads 255 and the reg gauge reads 144 'ish
Best groups so far are with PW (Power Wheel) at 5. "MAX" PW setting is close to the same results. PW at #4 results in flyers, which I suspect the rebound dial could tame.

No fine tuning of the power wheel set screw has been done yet. Reg was bumped up a smidge from just under 140 to a hair under 145 near as I can tell.

Extensive holds, bipod, bag arrangements, and one piece rest deployments have been exhausted as measures to arrive upon improvements.

Will be installing a pair of WIKA gauges very soon, after which we'll see where things go.

I haven't measured in a while but at 50 yards I can do about 1.25 in with a full magazine on a bipod with no bag and with no wind. I know that's not great for most of you guys but for me that's fine. I don't own a bench so I'm not sure how good the Impact really is. All I know is that I have lots of fun shooting it.

My averages for 33.95 are:
MAX 861
5 857
4 841
3 806

Best accuracy at 4 so far. Reg at around 147.

Great intel !!
Thank you for that post. Helps my noggin grasp which way is up.

I have been shooting the 33.95g JSB pellets between 815-830 fps with hole on hole accuracy @ 50 yards. A clean barrel & sorting the pellets is all I do. Watch your speed the groups start opening up on my gun around 850 fps and faster with this pellet. The regulator shows 150 bar, power wheel set @ 4, if that helps. With unsorted pellets look for 1/2" to 3/4" groups @ 50 yards. Don't forget to keep your barrel clean.

seven77 I sure am glad you posted up. Many reputable accounts had me convinced to NEVER clean a smooth twist barrel, but it sounds like you bucked the system to your benefit. I did try lapping with JB paste, as mine tended to look pretty wretched at the twist region from coarse spots in the corners of two of the 5 lands. Stays a lot cleaner since, with far fewer flyers. Have not tried sorting pellets since it shouldn't be necessary at 25 yards, but there again, hearing your results has me ready to dabble there.

P.S. Very glad to hear yours can be persuaded to shine at 50 yards.

This is a great idea so that us Impact users can see where we stand with our off-the-shelf rifles. So without any further "to do" here's my contribution.
Red target was shot last week under very calm outdoor conditions. I was trying out different power wheel settings. Settled on A. Please disregard the averages at right for Setting 4. I can't do basic math, apparently.
The black target was shot last night under odd conditions. I get home too late from work for sunlight so I set up shooting down the hall and out the back door........yes, you guessed it, I'm single......... so the pellet goes from still warm air for 20 yards into side-wind breezy cold air for 10 yds. That has to have an effect on ballistics. I had polished the barrel over the weekend, (not for increased accuracy but for decreased fouling), so things are breaking back in. But setting 5 worked best this night. A lot of the these bulls were around 3/8-7/16."
Anyway, shooting on the bench off Atlas Bipod and a small rear Caldwell bag; each bull on both target sheets is a five shot group at 30 yards, valve @4 and for reference, PW setting 5 is around 855 fps shooting JSB EK Heavies MK I.

Ziabeam, This rifle did not shoot this good out of the box. and I was a bit disappointed UNTIL I read on this forum about putting an o-ring under the barrel hold down knob. I use a #10 o-ring. Sorry I don't have the dimensions but it's a fat little bugger. Got it at the hardware store. The groups instantly tightened up so I recommend everyone try it who hasn't. Pennies for the o-ring and 5 seconds to install. If it doesn't work you are out no time or money....... but bet it will. And barrel will never loosen again!
