FX impact groups @ 40yrds, hope this works

Thanks for the pics, you may want to consider shooting each group on different power settings. Example with my s510 I would shoot JSB 15.89 on power setting 5, 4, and 3 setting on one sheet of paper with 3 different 1" target circles, then try another pellet 5,4, and 3 over again. You will have more options with the Impact, but gives a better idea on what pellet likes what FPS better.

[This info has been taken almost verbatim from my video review of this gun. The reason it has taken me considerable time to make it is because of the idiosyncrasies of .25 JSB Heavy pellet. Every pellet has a distinct relationship with a barrel. To shoot the Heavy .25 pellet well from Smooth Twist barrels (and perhaps all barrels), you need to understand that relationship]

The JSB Heavy .25 is a remarkable pellet. It has shown me accuracy and consistency better than any other pellet in ST barrels. BUT - it is also a more "sensitive" pellet than any other JSB. First, it likes to leave the muzzle at a slower speed than the 25gr JSB Kings. I found 870fps to be the fastest speed possible, while maintaining maximum accuracy. It is also the first (and only) JSB pellet that likes the smooth twist barrels CLEAN. Giving the gun a few patches and cleaner after each tin (300) of pellets will keep the gun shooting its best.

If you prefer to buy a gun and "just shoot it", not wanting to do any homework, maintenance, research, I recommend you just stick to the JSB King 25gr. They are not picky in the least, and shoot as well as we've come to expect. Just set the gun to 900fps, and enjoy. ;)

And, the MK2 Heavies may very well prove to be less sensitive than the MK1's. Their skirts are said to be a smaller diameter. I have read positive reviews. I have ordered some and will post my findings.

Here are 16 shots @ 100 yards, using My FX Impact .25 and JSB King Heavy MK1 34gr @ 860fps. My zero was at 50 yards. The holdover (12.5") is on par with the JSB King 25gr, despite shooting 50-60 fps slower. The ballistic coefficient of this pellet is very good. *And note shots 3 and 4 both were low. A tail wind came over the bunker and caused a very slight down draft. I did not think such a subtle wind could have an effect. Goes to show you how little wind it takes to throw pellets around at 100 yards. :) When the wind stopped, the group returned to the original POI.

It's not to say that the group's can't get better. It should be known that this is my first PCP gun, I have a very generic bipod attached to it. My chronograph hasn't arrived yet. This gun has so many tunable options vs. Pellet configurations. I am using a middle of the line scope. I was out today and shooting 50 n 70 yard's on a low setting. And the 25 grain JSB'S are making groups for me that looked like ted's video groups. And that was with the gun resting on a pile of tires. So I wouldn't give up on this one anytime soon. I guarantee my low power shots at 50yrds today would have made scrambled eggs out of a rabbit cranium.

"travels4fun"Have you shot yours beyond 60 yards yet? I'm curious to see how your Impact is grouping between 70-85 yards.

Mine falls apart beyond 50-55 yards. Here is what I am seeing.

What do you think?
If I recall, you've had several different models by different manufacturers that have all presented spiraling problems for you. Perhaps there's something in your technique? Maybe you can describe your bench/bag, bi-pod, hold, follow thru, etc. Because it seems like the pellet is traveling at a reasonable speed.

Have you tried any other pellets or speeds? Ted's reply highlights just how fickle the 34g pellets can be.
What troubleshooting methods have you exercised?

coonslayer your 50 yards group were ok, but the video of 70 meters clearly shows theres is no hope for decent grouping. I would say it has nothing to do do with your bipod or scope, it is more likely a missmatch of speed vs pelets (weight or overall form factor). I would try cleaning the barrel too, but just in order to eleminate as much of undefined factors as possible.

P.S. I would also change the settings from "I am shooting, gun in assisting" to "gun is shooting, I am assisting" for further experiments. For example try resting gun in a shooting rest or at least on shooting bags and see how that affects the bullet flight (first of all) and the point of impact.
