FX Impact for FT or Benchrest?

First, I thought maybe I should put this question to the Target forum but I didn't know if those guys would see it AND I'm just looking for FUN not serious, hardcore competition. If a mod wants to move it, feel free.

Ok, so has anyone done any accuracy testing with .177 on the Impact?

I'm not looking for Steyr performance but thought maybe I could use an Impact for Field Target and maybe .30 cal for Benchrest. Thanks for any guidance from the collective.

There are no .177 Impacts delivered as of yet and no word on when they are coming. I got my .22 Impact last week from AoA and was hoping to use it at 20 foot pounds in Field Target. The accuracy at 30ftlbs was very good, but not so much at 20ftlbs. I tried 13grain Air Arms and 14grain JSBs at 810 and 790fps respectively...couldn't get groups under 1.5 inches at 50 yards. I sold the rifle yesterday. I think the smooth twist barrel is the issue and that it likes a lot of air pushing heavy pellets. That may be why there's a delay in the .177 barrels being released.

USARB classes are limited to .177, .20 and .22. Extreme Benchrest might be where this rifle in .30 caliber shines!

Steve, thanks so much for the info. I saw on YouTube - The Airgun Gear Show that they visited the FX factory and actually shot the FX Impact .177 and got 720 shots per charge (yes, 720). Of course, that was at 12FPE from 250bar down to 60bar and used a chrono while doing it. They used 16gr FX pellets doing 170m/s or 558fps. I was wondering how the accuracy was. I don't know if the .177 Impact barrel differs that much from your .22. Maybe someone else with the same idea and a gun in hand (when the .177 barrel ships) will chime in.

Anyway, thanks again. Lots of info needed to make decisions as walking in the store and trying them out isn't an option.

Over 1 year since I asked this question.....

So, asking it again. Anyone using an FX Impact for Field Target?

My last FT meet had an FX .177 Wildcat that shot very well.

My main reason for asking is I am looking for something accurate enough to compete but short and light enough to carry in a backpack or on a motorcycle. I love my RAW HM1000 but it's too large for that purpose. My ultimate goal is driving my Harley to the Sunday morning FT competitions.

Back pack FT rig maybe a theoben ristol/pifle ?
15" barrel ( maybe it was 14. ? ) 1/2" groups at 50 yards, rifle stock pop's right on with no effect on groups. You would have to have Dave Slade or someone put one thogether for you - this one is his-.

Really for FT and fun any rig will do. I have used a Gamo 1000 , Daystate 2000 , B50, TX200, QB78, ... .

IF you need a big bore maybe figure which one ( FT / Hunting) you really want to put your money into. Not counting scope & such $500.00 would get you either place ( used ) but you want to buy something new so get one of each and cry later?

cant seem to upload the pic with it ina stock but you get the idea.

I have 177 impact that I recently purchased from the member. I plan to use it for field Target. This is significant upgrade to my Benjamin Maximus 22 that I used in field Target matches until now.

I've tested it and it produces 900 FPS with JSP 10.3 pallets.

It is very accurate at 50 yards with those pallets, about dime-sized groups when using bipod and sand back and no wind conditions.

In current setup regulator is set at about 105 bar, transfer port only one line out and hammer spring is at Max.

that's the same configuration I used the first time in my Fx Impact, now I did the opposite to test : current setup regulator is set at about 105 bar, transfer port only FOUR line out and hammer spring is at MIN. the test target upload before, it´s with this configuration.

Will you be at the match in Wappinger Falls on the 12th?
